Default Engine out, should I replace clutch master cyl?

Hi,

Replacing the engine and I was wondering if I should replace the clutch master cylinder as well while I have the engine out? I don't know the age and/or the condition of it (except that it worked before the engine broke) but I have a feeling it´s a lot easier with the engine out. What do you think?

Yes, along with the blue hose.

If you have the engine out, do it!

Glöm inte gummitätningen mellan huvudbroms cylindern och reservoaren. Om dom är original eller våta så passa på och byt dom också.

Hej!

Depending on the year of your car....check the information about the modification that is required to length of the piston to assure you will have enough travel to fully disengage the clutch...The replacement master cylinder was changed, same part # but different unit. Other wise you may have created a problem not precluded one.

My car (and old engine) is a euro -81 and the replacement engine is an -84 but I'm reusing the pressure plate from the -81 engine. I had to buy a new clutch slave cylinder since the bell housing is a bit different from the -81. Thanks for the advice James regarding the master, I'll check it up before ordering.

Tack Sverker!

Lycka till med motor bytet, lite mer HK med den nya motorn. Har du bilder på projektet?

Yes. The slave is easy and could be replaced anytime, but you already have everything apart.

You could have used the old style lower bell housing cover if you wished...

Yes, I could have used the old cover but I think I would have had to remove the flywheel to be able to reach the starter mounting bracket bolts. I've read somewhere that those flywheel bolts sometimes can be a real PITA to remove so I got a cheap used cover instead.

Jag ska försöka ta några bilder på kaoset vid nästa mektillfälle, Carl!

Right the flywheel covers the mounting bolts for that steel starter bracket.
