Default Help! Radio installation

Okay, I am installing a Blaupunkt Toronto in my 1981 US 928. But here is the real big issue.

In my 928 all of the speaker wires have been removed and cut by a PO so I have no known wires that go to the stereo.

I have a pic of some cut wires:

These wires are in the driver's side foot well. I know that the white wire is the signal wire to the auto antenna.

I do not know what the rest of the wires go to, all I know is that the brown are ground and get a good ground connection.

The red wires are positive but they have no power even with the key turned all the way to the point before the starter engages.

There are also two thicker (16-14 gauge) wires (red with a black stripe).

I would like to know if these wires go to the stereo system or to another part of the car like the door locks.

I do not have a controller (little black box) for my door locks anywhere in the car, just these wires where it goes on other years.

Any help would be appreciated as I don't have $600 to blow on a professional installation and I want to solve the mystery of these cut wires.

Thanks

I still have the ****, but no wires go to it. There are literally remnants/ bits and pieces of the harnesses that made up the radio but no real harness to use.

I can see where the speaker wires end, just not where they begin. There is NOTHING behind the center console that is part of the stereo, just that group of wires.

red with white should be switched power.. the wires to all the speakers run from the fader location as Porsche used that to make a two channel system sound more like 4 channel. Also I think the early radio had a small amp in the center console....but I am terrible with radios never use them Did put a modern unit in my wife's 79. hooked into the speaker wires near the hand brake.

Forgot to mention the kn*b is outside of the car on a shelf. No wires in sight of where it was except the ground for the hand brake.

The amp was optional as a HiFi system located next to the O2 counter on the right side of the passenger seat under a cover, my car never had it.

Thanks for the help so far.

The original Speaker wires to the fader were Red & Brown (pair for Left), Red/White & Brown/White ( pair for right). These are all 0.75mm^2 wires

There are also the following to the radio:

Brown (ground) 1.0 mm^2 wire
White (power to antenna amp (vie CE)) 0.5mm^2 wire
Red (constant power for memory) ) 0.5mm^2 wire
Red/Black - or possibly Red/White (Switched power from the ignition switch R term) 1.0 mm^2 wire (vis radio fuse)

I found these wires under the driver's side seat and they are the same wires that are from the brown wire with a white stripe over in the previous image.

They also are the same wires that go to the speakers so I am assuming these are the wires that go to the fader switch.

I have one request, can some one please post a picture of the wires and connectors that go to the fader switch?

It would be a huge help in the wiring of the stereo now that I know that the wires still exist. Thank you every one for your help so far

As tempting as it sometimes is to try and re-use old wiring like this, I've had the best results just leaving all that stuff as it is and putting new wire in for everything. Those butt splices are cute but as you can see the copper is corroded around them, as a for-instance. New wiring means I can build a harness as needed, have full documentation of everything that's being used, and have a chance at fixing it someday if needed. Plus, at least on my car, all the original wiring and connectors get to live on unmolested, ready to be pressed into service again should I or a future owner want to put the original Reno cassette deck head unit back in.

I just went out to look at the fader **** wiring on my '82. It has 6 pairs of Black and Black/Red wires. 4 pairs have colored bands in blue, red, green and one pair with both blue and red. I can take a photo if you like but that would likely only be helpful if you wanted to rewire yours.

That would be helpful Dave, I want to know where the fader switch plugs into the car's radio harness. I already have a fader switch that has all the wires.

I just want to redo the connectors at the 3 plugs that plug into the fader switch's plugs.

I took the pictures but am not sure how the will be helpful based on what you said you were looking for. I don't know where the 3 connectors are that come out of the ****. Are they under the seat? All I have access to without tearing out more is the switch and in the dash (my dash is out).

They are right under the seat and easy to get to even without seat removal. They are near the front of the seat.

Default Pic finally

Howdy,

Sorry this took forever. I have been trying to get my seat out and have not been able to get the rear bolts out until this morning. Yeah!

Anyway, here is the photo of the connectors and the fader control.
