Default supercharger interest

Wanting to add a supercharger to my early '86. I currently have PorKen's latest chipset will theses be OK? I also want to know what a provent is, if and why I need it and what will be a reasonable cost to buy one and have it installed? Thanks.
It will be a centrifugal type run at relative low boost and will not be using a inter-cooler.

You can read all about the Murf928 Supercharger kit for the 85/86 cars here.
This thread documented the first Stage 3 85/86 car and the Rennlist based gathering that followed the build to deliver the car to Shane:

also you will need to burn custom chips or use whats supplied w/ a kit.
Ken's chips will have way too much spark advance for a blower, they are designed for optimal performance w/o add-on's.

edit: simply put a Provent is a device to prevent and then drain off the oil that is ingested into the intake from PVC and blow-by (this will be greatly enhanced w/ a SC).

The above has all the information and you will need to SC your car.

Hi there dpower$

The provent is not required on the Murf928 kits since there is not excessive oil blowby from the breather system with our supercharger kits.

The Murf928 Stage One kits are basically the same as the Stage 3 but without an intercooler and lower boost.

Are you asking about having the supercharger kit installed, or just the provent? Where are you located?

The Murf928 Supercharger setup is plug-n-play, tested and proven on about 90 - 928's worldwide.

Many (dare I say most) have been sold to people who are not "hands on" who worked through the install themselves or had their local shop do the install for them.

I wasn't a hands on Porsche guy when I decided to install my Murph kit and didn't have a problem. I guess it's all in them genes

I believe it's strongly recommended that your car is running at peak shape before you supercharge.

Not sure if that entails an engine rebuild but at least refreshing everything short of pulling the motor.

YES! 928% correct!

Not a full rebuild, but if there are any deferred items, the addition of a SCer will point them out soon enough.

The kit I am referring to is the kit that CosmoKramer sold here to Temekun last year. Seems that many are familiar with it. I contacted him and am in the process of figuring out what it will need. My car is currently in the shop having every PorKen mod added. Has Ott x-pipe and AA chips currently. My mechanic states that it is sound for boost, the only thing it needs is for me to run the S**T out of it. Car sits a lot. Car was a gift from my wife 11 years ago for my birthday. I lost her to pancreatic cancer a month ago, decided to start driving it kind of for her. I have a good mechanic I trust who allows me to bring outside parts. I do not even change the oil. In 11 years I have put about 7K miles on the car mostly OCIC & 928's on the Autobahn type stuff

Sorry to hear about your wife.

Make sure you run a checklist on the condition of the car before boosting it. Cover everything, probably have it dynoed so you have a baseline of where you're at and that you're getting the most out of the power adders.

I'm familiar with Kosmo's kit. It's a well sorted out one, I think he kept the Provent. He worked hard to get everything figured out. Besides the Provent is there anything else missing?
