I also thought about using 16v euS top end over the S4 bottom end for a resulting compression ratio of about 8-8.5 to 1. Then you can go crazy with boost. I think we already have a confirmation that a stock bottom end is good for 800+ whp.

I've been thinking the same thing...I'm not sure what year bottom end yields what compression. I'm installing this on my stock U.S. 81 motor for now. Should be funny with intake runners bigger than the ports on the head. I think I'm going to open up the intake ports to match the runners for now while the motor is still in the car! Obviously I will rotate it to make sure the valve is closed at the time.

Haha thanks. I know it's going to be epic...just not sure epic win or fail. I know the power will be there, I just have to leave the boost down and resist the urge for more.

Later this thread might read, "How long until I disperse my 16 valve along the highway?".

The throttle bodies are from an older model BMW 3.5l M30 engine. They appear to be made by the same company that made the Porsche one.

I've always been a decent welder, even with tig, but didn't have much aluminum experience. Talk about a learning curve. Btw, if a pro welder is lurking around I'm aware they aren't perfect, but I can say I did it.

In the following pictures I cut runner tubing, shoved it in the flanges and bottom of the plenum, and mocked it up. Not too permanent yet. Just enough room to change the plugs, only just.

Time to get permanent!

Believe it or not, I was most worried about welding on the injector bungs. I thought they would move in one of three directions or demons would come out while welding or something. Turns out it was easy.

How are you going to secure the glass? I'm sure you will cover this later but I must know now!!! =)

I'm having the water jet shop cut foam rubber gaskets. A thicker one for the bottom and thinner up top. Slots will be cut in the two long sides of the glass. About four or five per side (can't remember right now). Either stainless or aluminum will be used to make like a "perimeter plate" to disperse the load from the screws. Basically it goes: aluminum shelf, gasket, glass, gasket, perimeter plate, allen screws. I'm also adding a cross bar to the middle of the plenum between runners two and three that will prevent the plenum from trying to spread out under boost.

I do have more to post, but I haven't actually done that part yet.

I welded these funky brackets to the plenum on the underside.

For these fuel rail brackets.

They fit like this. It's kinda hard to see.

I'll fire up a discussion about injector placement in a little bit in case anyone notices the weird aim.

Time to weld it up!
