Interesting one!

WP0ZZZ92ZGS840427

1986
C00- German...
M28.22- 310 hp 10.4:1 compression LH-Jet 16V goodness. Or is it 275 hp 9.3:1 compression LH-Jet almost-as-goodness? Not sure how to differentiate given this is supposed to be a German market car. 310 hp is Premium leaded gas, 275 is unleaded- any interesting fuel stickers on the inside of the filler door? AFAIK there's no difference in the engine VINs between German and Sweden/Swiss market motors. Maybe there's an LH brain part # difference that you could check. Will look for more info.

A28.09- 2.54:1

I139- Adjustable Seat Heating - Left
I251 Automatic transmission, shorter gear ratio 33/13 (2.54:1) for Sweden and Switzerland A28.03 and A28.09

Which is weird, since it's a German market C00 car.

M261 - Outside mirror - plain-Passenger's side, electrically adjustable and heatable
I319 Changed set-up of fan (additional engine cooling for hot climate countries)
I328-Radio Blaupunkt Bremen or Symphony
I340 Seat heating - Right
I490 Hi-Fi sound system
M494 Additional Amp
I570 High output air conditioner
M650- Sunroof

Low compression ROW 16V should have M151 option code. Since PET do not list it at all it either means they were not made at all or option was standard on some coutries. Most likely only C09 Sweden and/or C10 Switzerland. Would need to see option sticker and possibly engine stamping on one of these cars to verify.

M251 automatic gearbox is totally separate thing even though they might be combined into one and same car. PET do not list it either but it can be presumed cars which have correct gearbox type also have this option code. It was available possibly everywhere were ROW cars were sold.

Hi

It seems that the M151 equipment code was only used for the 1985 Australian cars.

A M28/22 is a regular 310 HP S2 engine, for a car with an automatic gearbox.

It seems that the "unleaded" 1986 cars for Europe were fitted with M28/45 (manual) or M28/46 (automatic) engines, nearly identical to the M28/43 and M28/44 of the US\Can market.
These cars were delivered in Germany (C00), Switzerland (C10), Austria (C11) and Australia (C23).

The 1986 Paris-Dakar Mercedes-G has such an engine, with an automatic gearbox, but certainly without cats.
