Rob, this is an incredible service. I have not read the 180 pages of the thread to learn how you came to be the archive gatekeeper, but thank you. if you know of a thread that discusses the origin of the data and what other factory info may be available, i.e, occasionally, I see added info like this is 1 of XXX with option XYZ, I would be interested in that.
A year ago, I decided that the 928 market still had upside potential and began to accumulate a few examples. One is a '79 which I understand isn't covered by the database you have access to, but I have four others 82-87. At the risk of taking advantage of your service, I will list the VINs of those four. If you have a policy of only doing one, I can respect that. The last thing I would want to do is to exploit your generosity. Thank you in advance, Joe

Hi Joe-
The archive gatekeeper thing is the work of one of our moderator overlords (who I, for one, welcome). I'm not at all 'the' gatekeeper, there are a number of Rennlisters (and 928OC, who house the 928 Registry) who have access to the option code information, and we are following in the footsteps of Rennlisters and other 928 discussion group gurus who made the interpretation of the options data possible. The secondary information is all hand-curated from the data set, if you want to see how many Belgian market 5 speeds without sunroofs there are, that's one of us crunching the data set.

This is an interesting car.

C00 - German market
M28.22 - engine serial # range 82G 05001>10000
A28.09 - This is a little strange, the A28.09 was supposedly only for the Swiss and Swedish market to go along with the lower compression M28.22. The German market automatic is listed as A28.08, which has a 2.35:1 final drive, while the A28.09 is 2.53:1. It's a 7% difference, RPM at 60 mph might help tell which one is in the car. I wonder (with no evidence to support it) if it's because the car lists a trailer hitch (does it have a trailer hitch on it?)
M058- "Impact absorbers front and rear, Bumper with shock absorber instead of
shock absorber-tube"
I139- Adjustable Seat Heating - Left
I208- Trailer coupling - this is the only car in the entire PET database that lists a trailer coupling as an option.
M220- LSD
I251- Automatic transmission, shorter gear ratio 33/13 (2.54:1) for Sweden and Switzerland A28.03 and A28.09
M261- Outside mirror - plain-Passenger's side, electrically adjustable and heatable
I295- Prepared for Telephone, TEKADE B-2 Network - (87-89, Federal Republic of Germany)
I319- Changed set-up of fan (additional engine cooling for hot climate countries)
I328- Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 45
I340- Seat heating - Right
I415- Widening of the gauge on the track on the rear axle
I490- Hi-Fi sound system ( 8 speakers, balance control, 1983-86.0)
M494- 86- Additional Amp -Blaupunkt Quadro BQB-80
