The owner said that the car hasn't a locking differential.
I hope he's wrong but it would be strange that he doesn't know it because he had the car for 10 years and also reconditioned the transmission.

Next week I'll have the car in my garage and I'll try to make some pictures for the forum.

Only 1 way to know for sure that it's (A)- present, and (B) works: Smoky burnout.

 

Given that it's an 81, it's entirely possible that it has (A) - been removed or (B) - completely worn out.

And you can test it by jacking up the back end and turning one wheel (trans in neutral). If the other wheel turns, it's got it. If not, not.

But the smoky burnout is more fun.
