Default Cruise control rebuild

Just wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with this ebay ad i've had on my watch list for some time now.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/380391653503?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l4456&_trkparms=gh1g%3DI380391653503.N8.S2.M1277
My cruise control likes to go wide open throttle when activated, and it was suggested that the module was the issue, so i figured for a measly $63 i could have it check out or potentially fixed.

Lots of feedback for their services, that's promising.

Back in the day- Porschefans listserv, a guy in Georgia IIRC was doing them- his main market was Mercedes but the 928 community was sending quite a few his way.

Edit: Bah, was TN. Sure is nice if the price went down even while the dollar grew smaller.

Also nice to have a few of these repositories of deeply archived material- thanks, Greg!

I've been dealing with Autoecu for many months now trying to get my 86.5 CC brain rebuilt. It started with an eBay purchase. I have sent it back twice now because it didn't work, and now they don't call or contact me at all. I call every month or so and they give me some story, but I still don't have my brain back working or not. I think they have given up, but I can't get them to send it back. I say stay away.

open up the cruise control box and reflow all the solder joints. mine came back to life doing that - all it costs is your time.

DZ - I used them to rebuild mine a few years ago, it wouldn't hold speed. The first time it didn't work and sent it back, came back the second time and its worked fine for more than 3 years now. Turn around was pretty quick, a coupe of weeks.

I used to use them for my rebuilds and one in three gave me problems so I stopped using them.
928 International offer rebuilds but more expensive. I do not know of another source.

No idea how good (or bad) these guys are, but they advertise regularly on the Excellence magazine. Looking at their site, it seems that they might not do the CC brain, but I would think they might be able to shed some light. Or maybe someone here knows them.

Jose,

I questioned them about their ability to test CC brains for our cars and they eventually admitted they can't fully test them. They can only test a few basic inputs and outputs.

Sounds like they have had some successes, but many failures.

I might try reflowing mine again when/if I get it back, but last time I tried it, I didn't have the patience.

Also tried baking a spare brain last year, but it only worked for a couple of weeks.

Someone posted about how to reflow, involving an oven. sounds like i might destroy something, does anyone have a link or know the exact temps that are safe to use?

I just used a solder iron - heat each point up until it flows, add a little solder if needed.

Easy, just takes a little time.

So i just tried the oven technique and feel i may have destroyed my CC unit. I did 365 for 8 mins, then 380 for 1. Referencing this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...t-working.html
