Another Panamera Wheel-set Owner

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all of the posts and pics to give others of us ideas about what we can do with our cars. After seeing several posts of 928s with Panamera 18" wheels I bought a set from ebay. I paid $599 for mine but others have done even better. The tires are Bridgestone S-04 Pole Positions from Tire Rack. I think they were right around $700 shipped.

I can't believe how much more modern my car looks with these wheels. I took it for a short spin and the car seems to drive exactly the same as before.

The front end looks high in the picture but it's lower now.

The wheels were so clean my wife didn't complain that I left them on the counter all night.

My next project is replacing the rotors and pads and refinishing the calipers.

My car is a 1990 S4 with 78k miles.

Mickey

Wow! What an update! It looks great!

Thanks. Your wheels look great too!

The wheels and car actually look much better in person. Everything looks dull and gray in the pics.

Put the tires on yourself?

No way. Ye Olde Wheel Shop near BWI airport. Great service at a crazy price. $70 for all four tires.

Looks Great... I need to do that to my car too :)

Looks great. On my list too. If there were more 928s left we could start a 'run' on these, but there aren't ;)

There is a guy selling a set locally if you are ready. Not sure how flexible he is though.

I offered $700 and he insisted I come and look first, I lost interest and got a set of cup 1's. I told the seller how much they go for on ebay, so he is aware now of the market value.

Hi Mickey --

Could you let us know what tire sizes you decided on F&R?

I didn't realize how much larger in total diameter the standard Panamera fitments are than the 928 OD of 25". The front size on a Panamera 18" is 27.6", and the rear is 27.7"!

From what I can tell, the S04 is available in two 18" front sizes which are pretty close: 235/40-18 and 245/35-18. For the rear it looks like 255/35-18 might be closest, but there's also 265/35-18.

So, just curious where you landed up. The nice thing is these sizes are generally quite a bit less expensive than the Panamera OEM sizes!!

I went with what the guy at the Tire Rack recommended which was 225/40/18 front and 265/35/18 in the back. I have a navigation app on my phone but I haven't driven with it on to determine whether the speedometer is accurate. I'll do that after this snow gets out of here.

This upgrade is one of the best and easiest you can do on a 928! I just love the 5 spoke 18" look!!! Gotta clean the brakes up if you do this though as they are VERY obvious after!

As for tire size, I prefer 245/40 and 255/35 on these wheels! Gives a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better balance to the 928. The 928 understeers pretty badly from S4 up. The early years were very well balanced with their 225 front and rear tires and felt more like a 911 (which is what Porsche wanted because the car was supposed to REPLACE the 911) and then later they went more GT and put spacers on the back and then wider tires and all these things continued to make the car more and more numb and understeer more and and more. Make the tires wider than stock and about the same front and rear and it will make you REALLY appreciate the way these cars can handle! I LOVE my '95 GTS with the wheels/tires as described above! SO BALANCED!

I have these wheels with 225/40 & 265/35 Conti.DW and the balance of grip is perfect

I have 245's on the fronts and 265's in the rear. It really sticks, it would be much better if my suspension wasn't so soft.
I run Panamera 10 spokes and can say that they are one of the easiest, most noticeable, well priced upgrade we can do to these cars.
