Default Power Steering Fluid

Hi Everyone,

I'm dripping a few drops of PS fluid on the floor (perhaps a drop per day) '84 5-speed. A friend of mine has recommended Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak as a temporary measure.

https://www.lucasoil.com/products/display_products.sd?iid=28&catid=9&loc=show

Has anyone had success with this method? Other advice (Beyond the PS rebuild)?

Thanks!

Where's the leak coming from first? One of the common fail points for leaking power steering fluid are the reservoir and the two hoses that attach to it. Could also be the steering rack too.

Stop that friend now!

These cars use ATF (Dexron) in the power steering system.

I did know about the ATF, but I wasn't sure if the PS Stop Leak would affect it since I read about it being used in a past thread. He is mostly familiar with American cars, and he is really brilliant with them so that was his idea but I wanted to check with the Shark Tank first.

The leak is on the left (driver's) side perhaps 6in from the wheel and a little towards the front. I'll have to get under it tomorrow and have a look.

probably the curved line from pump to reservoir, best to swap out the res and the both of the lines that go to it cut the swages with a dremel if you want to drain the system then remove one of the banjo bolts at the bottom of the rack
NOTE get 4 new sealing rings.
other possibility is the hi pressure line from the pump this runs next to the top of the cam tower
