Default 78 Euro: From Junkyard to Restoration

Well....

Where it all began....

Selling my 79 Minerva blue in Sept
Proclaiming at Frenzy to want to find a real project
Having a friend looking for Saab parts find one in a junkyard
Watching the yard load the 78 onto my trailer with a forklift
Now in my garage.......off we go

Well, my friend, you have found yourself a project alright.

Looking forward to seeing this car when you've got it finished. Hope everything goes as smoothly (and inexpensively) as it can.

Best of luck with it.

KLVA, I truly admire your optimism, that is without a doubt a real project. VERY doable though, you just have to look at the upcoming months spent on it (I took on a similar project in 1987, took me 2 years) as your hobby instead of work which I'm guessing you already do. Good Luck and enjoy.......

Thanks Chris, Brian, Andrew and coreseller,

Big Thanks to Blumaxx's owner, Ed, for his support and help

I managed to get the tensioner back on and line up the marks on the cams and turn the motor about 10 revs manually ...felt real good, even, good tension on the cam lobes....gonna first work on the fuel system...tank drop...got a sender for it....new lines.....got a new pump and filter.....
any one have a fuel pump mount/ cover plate, in any condition.....?

It is amazing how much is still on this original 'survivor'

Will be looking for a black, non sunroof headliner.....
Also, a lower front deflector shield/rock deflector......
Also a resonator for an early Euro......
Anyone have any early Euro parts of any description....let me know
More pics to follow as progress is made....
Thanks again, Kevin in VA

I like it, especially the interior... it looks like it is in decent starting condition.

Looking forward to seeing this former beauty being restored.

I knew that you would be back with another OB soon!

Nice project indeed. This will keep you busy for the long winter season.
I realy admire your passion for the 928. Like few others here, you're a TRUE enthusiast.

Can't wait to see the transformation.
Hope to see you driving this blue OB in September '14!

Brother.

You are one brave individual!!!

I just completed an almost full restoration on a 82, but not intentionally. It just sort of ended up that way, one thing leading into another (interior, wheel, tires, engine, transmission, etc, etc, thank God the paint was new!). Anyway after many 1000's of $ and 100's of hours of work, there is only the torque tube that has not been touched on a 85K mile car.

Please budget at least twice the dollar amount and 3 times the work hours for your project, then if it comes in under your estimates, you will feel better about it! Roger and Mark are your friends and keep their numbers on speed dial.

Patience is the key and you must walk away from the project from time to time or you will end up dreaming about Porsche part replacements in your sleep!

Looks like quite a project Kev. You'll eventually get this going, I'm sure. Those pascha seats look in remarkably good shape for how the rest of the car looks. I'm looking forward to following your progress.
