Default What is the purpose of the "!" buttong??

Meant to say button, not buttong.

Mine came on semi regularly when I bought the car 2 years ago.
Then came on only sporadically for a long time.
Now it is coming on each time that I start the car, and sometimes when I am driving.

The car runs fine, does not get hot, and oil pressure is is good. So I doubt that its anything critical. What areas are monitered by the function that sets off this Light?

The car is well maintained and has no issues that Im aware of.

I'm guessing you have never read the Owner's Manual? It describes what faults cause the ! warning light to come on.

There should be an accompanying warning light on the dash that tells you why the "!" light (also known as the "Central Warning Light" or "CWL") is on.

If you get it to go out by pushing the button, it's not critical. If not, it is.

Have you read the Owner's Manual?
Do you have one?
PDF copies can be downloaded for most years from a link in the "New Visitor" sticky.

No other lights are coming on usually.
Lately I am having an issue with a leaking coolant overflow bottle, that is on order, and so the low coolant light has been coming on. But the "!" light was coming on before that started last week.

What year is your car? You should put that in your signature line or at least in your post.

Owner's manuals are available >>> HERE <<< . (Thanks again AO!)

I don't think your car has an overflow bottle. That is a pressurized reservoir. If it leaks your coolant will likely boil away. One of the tings that sets the CWL off is low coolant level.

It's for the ejector seat, drivers side. It means you are doing something the car doesn't like and it wants to take over driving duties.

If you decide to push it, I hope your 928 has a sunroof.

Wait. Join date '07? You haven't looked for/read owners manual or the stickie or searched?? I did this BEFORE I bought my 86.5. And "no other lights are coming on usually" - which are coming on unusually? If you have been around here (Porsche Universe) this long you know about the due diligence required of ownership...

That said, I would suspect from your post you also need to check into the 2 big end-of-game issues, to wit, fuel lines and, if it is an auto, the flex plate. And although you may get some wise-*** replies here (sorry for this one!) you will also get ALL the help you need to get that beauty in proper order.

If nothing else is coming on, have you confirmed that all the warning indications illuminate when you turn the key to the on position before starting? If not then you wouldn't know if that system was giving you a warning or not.

It can also happen if the switch on the parking brake is going bad.
