Wheels for 1987 928 S4
Hello, I'm new at the forum. I just bought a 928 S4 and I want to change the wheels. I found nice wheels on Craigslist.
I like to ask you guys, if they would fit.
Front 8x18 ET 57, 235/40 ZR18
Rear 10.5x18 ET 60, 265/40 ZR18
Do I need spacers? I really don't want to do any modifications to the car
Thanks for your help
Volkmar

Welcome Volkmar,
The wheel and tire sizes you mention will be fine (assuming the bolt patter is 5x130 - Porsche).
The fronts are perfect. The rears will be close to rubbing on the inside, but shouldn't rub. You might consider picking up a 20 to 25mm hubcentric spacer. I would mount them first then measure the distance between the rubber and the fender to find the size range that you are comfortable with.

Hi Volkmar,
One of the first things many new owners do after buying a 928 is to replace the wheels with something more modern looking. Most S4's had front wheels with 65mm offset. That offset, as provided by Porsche, is the 'perfect' offset for steering and handling (all other things being equal). As you reduce the offset you also reduce the car's self-centering and induce more tram lining. That in turn makes an otherwise very relaxing-to-drive car into one that is much less relaxing to drive: you have to be steering it all the time.
A friend of mine put wheels with 55mm offsets on his car and it was soun pleasant he reverted back to 65mm offset wheels.
Your proposed 57mm front offset wheels are only 2mmdifferent from his horrid 55mm offset wheels. You too may experience horrid driving.
But if you do it soon enough, before you know just how well a 928 steers with the 65mm offset wheels, then you won't have a point of comparison so may hardly notice the retrograde experience.
I reckon you should keep the original wheels I case you want it to steer properly at a later date!!
Cheers
Dave

I run Panamera 10 spokes on my 81. The fronts are basically the same and there is no noticeable change to the steering.
I just need to flare the fronts slightly so they don't rub when going over a bump around a corner above 10 MPh.
PS my suspension is soft. I also don't know if the fenders on an S4 are wider. The extra bit of rubber on the front makes one of the biggest improvements to handling on these cars. Good luck with your choice of rims and tires.

I recently acquired an '87 S4 myself, and because it had been sitting for years and the tires were 11 years old, I had to change them immediately. I have 18" Sport Technos on it in the following sizes:
Front 8x18 ET50
Rear 10x18 ET47 295/30
(No spacers front or rear)
I get no rubbing in the rear at all, inside or out. My quarters have not been rolled. I had the 11" version (ET63) and also had no rubbing but did have to use a 7mm spacer.

Hello,
Sorry to bother again. I found nice Cup Wheels.
They are 7Jx17 ET55 and 9Jx17 ET55.
Would they fit on my S4 (without rolling!) and what would be the right size for the tires?
Thanks 1000x

I went with a Panamera 18" wheel. People put 20" on those cars so the 18" are sold cheap. They are 8" front 9" rear and fairly close ET for the 928 car:
