1978 Euro, 1982 auto in salvage yard (MD)

I stopped in at Mt. Airy Auto Parts on Woodville Rd. today to revisit a pair of salvage 928s I had seen there about a year ago. I didn't pay much attention at the time, because I was there for Saabs (they only had one, a '95 900 SE, still there) and I didn't even own a 928 at that time.

Anyway, the first is a Minerva blue 1978 Euro with a 5-speed and black/Pascha interior. All of the glass is still there and the doors are closed, so the interior is amazingly good. It has no sunroof, and is pretty complete.

The second car is an '82 platinum over brown automatic. It's been there much longer and it shows. Interior is trashed but is (was) full leather.

Someone needs to get that interior. Any idea what they'd want for it?

DougM 11-04-2013 07:39 PM

Jump on that interior, the Euro gauge cluster that still has the euro speedo, those door vents, stainless gas cap if there. Lots of good stuff that is easy to get. Shift boot looks decent. Lots of good stuff with an hour or two of wrenching.

What Doug said. Lots of choice bits on the 78 Euro.

I'd like to take a trip up there with my tool kit this week. Worth the trip for the gauge cluster and owner's manual.

Couldn't tell from their website... is this a u-pick, parts buy the pound place?

These guys have no idea how to price 928 stuff. I got a nice spare tire cover, fuel level sender cover, and rear tool cover (brown unfortunately...I need black) for $25. The '82 had a nice left taillight assembly, so I asked what he wanted for that, and he said $125 (928 International only wants $75 for those).

I really want the interior from the '78, but I don't know why. I have an '87 with a nice black leather interior. The owner's manual was like brand new (and in German).

Thanks Man. Should I prepare to do my own parts pullin'?

Hai gebissen 11-04-2013 08:26 PM

If you look closely, there is a red 944 in the background of one of the shots of the '82.

I won't be able to get back there for several weeks. You definitely need that nice early stuff more than I do! I told the guy I would be posting pics on this forum, so he won't be surprised if you show up asking about them.

Hai gebissen 11-04-2013 08:31 PM

Oh, unfortunately, this is not a "u-pick it" yard. Both times I have been there, they drove me around in the yard. They might let you pull parts supervised, but I wouldn't count on it. The stuff I got was just loose in the trunk of the '82.

Shawn Stanford 11-04-2013 09:01 PM

I would love to get my hands on that interior. Someone should at least give them a call and ask for a price. Not everyone, or they might figure out what they've got.

Were the back seats in good shape?
