Maybe not because...you are a crazy man!

The old electrics are such a PITA. I should disconnect them in my cars. Getting them adjusted right is tricky and they seem to drift on me. Then you have to take the door panels off to try it again.

It's such a small 2-door car. Having that automatic door lock feature is for "luxury."

All that aside...good luck on this mod. The challenging part will be running the wires and connecting up the electrics right.

Greg,

Does your car have the factory alarm? If not, take a look at http://www.electric-life.com/shopdis...Door+Lock+Kits
They have electric door lock kits and remote lock/unlock.

Cheers!

Thanks. I've been thinking I'll probably be replacing one pita with another plus time and money. I'll just continue to fiddle with my vacuum system--maybe one time I'll stumble on having it work again. WSM states something like "adjust" without any explanation of how or what to adjust.

Thanks for the lead but I think I'm gonna let the old vacuum system remain.

Is your issue mechanical or vacuum related?

It is mechanical related. The button on the passenger side unlocks often from the driver's side activation but does not move enough to the locked position when driver's door is locked. Trying to figure out how to adjust it or free it up.

Yes - I did this upgrade on my 79. I think I spent about $100 all together. I bought a black widow alarm system from parts express. I bought to two electric door lock plunger type devices and voila. Remote doors locks with horn and LED light for alarm. Got rid of all my vacuum leaks and never looked back. Don't even use my keys anymore. The only drawback so far is the range. I only get about 5-10 feet from the car for on/off. One of my best upgrades!

I highly suggest you are very comfortable with 12v wiring, soldering, etc before embarking on this adventuer. Make sure you have all of your WSM electrical diagrams handy. Lifesaver! Also, you will have to remove your door panels to mount the door lock plungers. First time around this took probably about 10 hours for everything assuming you have the above experience.

Good luck!
