Default gunk and stuff in intake

Any one have a clue as to where this stuff could have come from? It consists of sand, grime, and goo (best way to describe). Took a couple of days to clean out with the best result coming from spraying "Gunk" in and letting it sit to break the stuff up.

Concerned that now it is cleaned, that whatever caused it will allow it to re-appear. 7 Way connection changed and the valley cleaned of all its gook as well. That was just a very dirty place with a lot of hidden issues...

Thanks !!!

It is orange like a Fram and has the bow in it. I do not know the make.

I have to check, but it might have been installed upside down meaning the "bow" was facing down... Is the correct installation with the "bow" pointing up?

I don't know if that matters... It definitely looks like something was getting past the air filter for quite some time. The goop was very sandy, but if it was bypass, why would it be goopy or mixed with sludge? There isn't any fuel or oil in that air intake?

Thanks as always.

Mine was the same way, but my air cleaner top has a corner broken off. Hopefully it wasn't driven that way long.

+1. Mine looked like this when i disassembled earlier this year. Found more sitting in the driver side air intake chamber where the hose connects.

sometimes the air cleaner element is put in upside down,
then flipped over after its been used,
Best bet get a new filter,
the hump points to the sky,
dont go by the arrows on the sides,
as they can be printed in both directions,
