Removing and replacing ignition switch 1991 S4
I have the Dash POD out, along with the center console. I have removed one screw on the top side of the ignition switch, and could not find the other screw, I felt around but could not feel it. I think it must have been left out by the PO. The steering wheel is still connected, as it contains the air bag unit. What else needs to be removed in order for the ignition switch to come out so it can get replaced while I am in there.
Thanks

if you have the 2 screws off the back of the switch, the wire plug is pulled off then then it should pull out.

it does not want to come out. I was afraid to try and force it out without asking in the forum. Thanks Stan

can you get an inspection mirror in the rear of the switch,
maybe there is another screw holding the other side of the switch
it should just pull out

Plastic piece snapped off metal piece still in rack
Here are pics of the plastic part and the end piece.. The metal is still inside the rack and is not coming out.

When I replaced mine, I had a heck of a time with the second screw (the one at 10:00 from the rear).
A mirror showed that a phillips head screw had been used instead of a slotted screw.
So I had one of each.
Good luck on this. I hope that the PO didn't use JB Weld.

i did use a mirror and there is no screw in the second slot. It appears that someone might have used some sort of sealant to keep it in place.

With some very firm persuasion the metal piece is out. It did have some type of sealant on the outside of the metal piece going into the rack. Now to clean it up and reassemble. Thanks everyone.

I am in the process of replacing my ignition switch.
There is a black plastic cover over the switch - I can't figure out how to remove it.
Any suggestions? What section of the WSM describes removal of the ignition switch? I can't find it.
Here's a pic of it, looking down on the switch through the windshield. The light is illuminating the plastic cover on the switch.
Thanks.

Whats the pale plastic thing on the right side of the plastic ? Is it plugged into something, holding the cover on ?
My switch did not have anything like that on it. I also had one philips head and one slotted screw holding the switch in place....?? I changed my switch because of occasional failures to start , but later found it was caused by the starter relay. However, the car ran noticeably and significantly better after the new switch went in, so that would indicate there was a poor contact issue in there, to me anyway.

That's a metal pin that runs through a hole in the cover. It appears the cover is supposed to pivot/swing up on that point, but I can't get it to move.
