Interesting, not bad for an entry level fixer upper. Interior really not that bad overall. A little work to do and you'll have 6k in a 2k car in no time.

Hello all I'm a new member and this is my first Rennlist post 😃
I have a 79 928 that I've had for 6 years now and it still runs well, and seems to run better the more I drive it . I have to admit though I do have a 355 Chevy back up that I won't hesitate to use should the unthinkable should arise. I call it my pourchev back up plan.

It isn't a Vette, and it's no longer a 928. Enjoy you're Morphodite.

... or not...

I went down to look at the car Monday, It was generally as described in the ad:
Good interior, cheap paint job - (OK at 10 feet, for my eyes anyway) There is gold trim around the windows that is not evident in the pictures, a little tacky for me but not a deal breaker. My 15 minute test drive indicated that the transmission, steering and suspension seem to be OK.

But 2 big problems,
1) According to the seller, a guy who came to look at the car played with the carburetor adjustments and made it almost undrivable. I believe him because in the youtube video shot the day before the engine was behaving normally when he gave it some gas... when I was there it was jumping all over the on the engine mounts as soon as the throttle was touched, on the road this translates to drive train shaking.
2) There is no title for the car, it has not been plated since 2009, and I finally got a response from Quebec's equivalent of the DMV... it cannot be registered here without a previous title issued by another DMV.

Since I was already planning to visit Vermont next weekend to pickup parts for my 924S I said I would give him a second chance for the carburetor issue, he is taking it to be tuned today and should be able to resolve that problem. But the lack of a title IS a deal breaker so I'm unfortunately out of it. It did look like fun.

If someone else is interested the sellers email is in the eBay ad, or I can send it to you. I think I know how to contact the person who I suppose is still the title holder (the owner when it was last on the road), so it might be possible to get a legitimate title. It might also be possible to get information on the SBC installation from this person.

The car is now on Craigslist with this description:

"I have a 928 that had a conversion kit installed so a 350 would fit right in. The car is in mint shape. The other day it developed a spark knock so I changed plugs wires cap rotor and did nothing. so I hed the compression checked and found that # 4 and #6 have zero compression and 150-165 in all the rest. I am moving and don't have time to fix it. The car is worth well more than what im asking but my loss is your gain."

Euro 5 speeds are great 928's. Too bad this one was treated to a bad conversion. Keep searching and you'll find a nice example.
