Is this fuel damper issues?
I posted an article a few weeks ago where my s4 started fine from cold then on my return from shopping it started and immediately cut out 3 times! I put that down to being parked nose down hill with only 75 miles range in the tank!
Well things are getting more interesting it always starts from cold but when warm sometimes the engine just spins over with no signs of firing! But usually starts in the end! Is this the start of fuel damper problems?
I think maybe the ignition switch could be causing problems as sometimes you have to turn it a couple of times to engage the starter up until now this hasn't been a major problem but I have ordered a new one to be on the safe side?
Are there any throw away items on the engine that are worth replacing regularly to avoid these starting issues?
Thanks Nige

Replace the dampers as they are relatively inexpensive. Also, while you are doing this, replace the temp II sensor. Definitely replace the ignition switch; it can cause all sorts of problems from a haywire dash to hard starts. These jobs have been done a million times and there are good write-ups on them. Have fun.

It is located on the water bridge, that is where the radiator hoses connect to. It is on top of the block not on the front, that is the thermotime sensor and controles when the cold start injector fires. the Temp II is a inexpensive part if you can find it OEM, cost me $15 with some research on OEM part numbers. Remember, be cheap and pay less for the same exact part. If you don't feel like looking call Roger at 928rus or Mark at 928 international and they will get you the correct parts very quickly and for a fair price.

Before you spend 100's of $$ on new dampeners, there's a really good diagnostic process in the workshop manual.
From memory, possible causes of hard warm start include:
Leaking injector
Failed Fuel Pressure Reg or Dampener
Failed check-valve at fuel pump
Failed Temp II switch
etc.
There's a flow-chart to follow which breaks it down nicely so you can figure out what to replace
Read the booklet "LH/EZK Diagnosis/Troubleshooting". Its embedded in the volume 1A of the workshop manual on the DVD on the page following 28-78. From memory, AO also has a link to the test plans in his sig, although you can't search for posts by him as his username is less than 3 chars (but you can find it in the first post of the "random pic" thread).
