i'm hoping to make the next breakfast in August. it's looks to be at Bailey's Restaurant. is that correct? are these family types events at all or are most of you out on 'kitchen passes' that morning? i ask because my daughter loves going to car events with me.

If you're hauling your whole family in tow and the kids can't fit in the back seat then any Porsche apart from a Cayenne and Panamera isn't going to be too comfortable of a daily ride for them.

If you're hauling yourself and one passenger, you're good to go. The 928 is an impeccable daily driver for just yourself or you and your wife and the occasional small child or two.

Before I got my 928, my mom drove it every day for years to her work (which is funny since my dad bought the car for himself and she ended up putting most of the miles on it)...probably one reason why my front spoiler and grills are so messed up. Apparently there was one of those concrete parking space blocks in front of the store that she kept hitting all the time...

Meh, my 928's been my daily driver since '06 and I have a wife and a kid. It worked out very well until she grew taller than her mother and I so she doesn't get back there much any more. On that though, her first car is a 928 and it's going to be fun to watch her try and pile all her friends in the car.

I have used 928s as daily drivers and long distance cars for over 10 years. I have fit compressors, engines (in pieces) transmissions, and body parts in the hatch. I have fit four people in the car. I have driven 1700 miles in just over 17 hours. I have brought an entire family's suitcases to the airport, left it there, and it started over a week later. Everything from 35 year old cars to (when I bought at 89 in 2000), an 11 year old car.

Sorry, but no. I was catching a 997 on the track when my engine seized. Maybe it was the driver, but they guy was pushing it pretty hard. If I had another two laps, I would have been in front. I don't know what revision it was, but there's no question I was catching him, I was working of course cause I seized, but I think the GT and GTS can keep up - stock to stock.

I have a red GT I'd like to get rid of. 5 speed of course. It has some history now, but my son used it as a DD to school for a while, and I drove it quite a bit before the engine grabbed a few rods back in 08.

So, if we hire Sabine Schmitz and have her drive stock examples of a 997 and a 928 GTS on the 'Ring, the lap times will be close?

I don't know, but my experience on a track with a decent driver said that the 997 will not absolutely embarrass a 928GT as posted by James. There were others at the same event, they can chime in if they like.

My 928 is a daily driver and I have a wife and two kids. We take it on trips all the time with our luggage. Not like our suburban but you have to know you aren't taking everything you own on the trip. Works great for us no matter if the drive is 1 hour or 5.

There should really be no way a 928GT can hang with a 997S on the track, unless the big difference is in the driver capability. Numbers alone say it's not possible. The 928 is, what, 3500 lb. give or take with 326hp for a GT? The 997S is 3130 at 355hp and the 997 will put it's power down better. You did say a 997, so we could be talking 325hp @ 3100+/-lb. Still shouldn't happen.

as for the family aspect, the 997 is working perfectly now and i can't see the 928 working any less so. on the rare occasion we all take the 997 out on the weekends and it works just fine - not much luggage room left, but we don't use it for that purpose. during the week, it's occasionally me and my daughter on the way to or from daycare/work. we mainly used the wife's vehicle on the weekend. getting a child seat to fit properly is my only concern.

It will be a lot easier if you start with a MY88-upwards car, as in the USA they're the ones with 3-point rear belts as standard (I *think* - I know parts of Europe got them as standard in 1990, but I think the USA was earlier), although from around 1984-up they can all take the later belts, so retrofitting isn't a big deal (here in Australia *all* 928's have 3-point rear belts - its been mandatory here since before 1977).

IIRC, Rob Edwards posted some stuff about buying new belts from the factory in a thread a couple of years ago with some good info on the 3-point belts.
