Default 14 pin connector replacement

Need to replace 14 pin connector in motor compartment passenger side with something new. Both male and female sides are dry, cracked and falling apart. Porsche wants $45.00 A SIDE so $90 to replace.

Has anyone found a aftermarket plug that will work? I am thinking of eliminating both and even solder each and shrink wrap the fool out of it. That would seal better than the snap together factory plug I would think.

Thoughts???

Got to be a better way than what Porsche did.

Don't solder/seal the joint together. It needs to be separable to replace the timing belt (unless of course you want to remove the connections down at the alternator, starter, etc.)

There are newer type connectors out there, and most likely water tight, but at what cost Dean?
The orginal lasted over 25 years, 90 bucks doesn't sound all that bad considering and would be a simple replacement job.

The 911 has a similar connection. I would guess its cheaper since the volume is higher. I don't know if it would work but it looks close. (just looking at the connection very quickly one day.)

I am going to try using Delphi weatherpack connectors. They are TRUELY water tight, vibration and heat resistant. 2 6-pin connectors are $14.00 ... Hopefully no need to clean every year too.

Dean--

Roger sells the individual parts of the factory connector. If your wiring is OK, the pins can be lifted out, cleaned with a small brass brush, and dropped into new shell pieces. FWIW, these connectors were used on a few boatloads of M-B cars too, and they show up in other places in the car (memory seat controller snaps to mind...), so availability is a little better than unobtanium parts.

The part numbers are 911 for both the male and female connectors.
Dean can you hang for a couple of days. I found numbers for the connector housings only and they are more in the less than $15 range. I will order them tomorrow to make sure they are what I think they are. If they have to come out of Germany it may be Monday before I see them.
