The cassette is the big cast aluminum bracket you broke to which the PS pump (on a sub-bracket) and the alternator are attached.

ok, thanks for clarifying. and I'll be careful to select the correct length bolts for it, there are a few places in my area which I could go to, so between them I'll be ok.

I measured my thrust bearing play .32mm. so I'm within WSM spec

also is it possible to change the thread title to something like "timbuktoo '86 auto documentation" or something

dont just duplicate the bolts you have,
measure the holes to see exactly how far the depth of each hole is,
as someone else could have put the wrong bolts in the holes before you

just got the bracket, belts, and an oil and air filter from 928intnl. so thanks to Mark Anderson there.

also would I need to drain the oil to change the oil pressure sender and oil filter? or should I have the shop do that when I get the oil changed.

does anyone know of a good place to get the wheels aligned in Philadelphia or really anywhere in the tri-state region? I really want to lift the car an inch or two to aid in the prevention of accidents like this again. and I should be more picky about which roads I drive on.

No need to drain for filter and pressure sender, but if you dont know when the oil was last changed, you should do it so you have a reference point. Try to find somebody who knows 928s to ANY and ALL work on it !

Ok, thanks for the info. I was going to get the oil changed either way, but I was hoping I could change those two myself so that the current pressure sender wouldn't be squirting old goo everywhere

also (and not to be repetitive) still looking for a good place for 928 wheel alignment near philadelphia PA.

I'm having difficulty putting the belts in. even with the adjusters all the way loose they don't quite get around the pulleys easily. I was able to brute force the AC on, but I can't get the PS pump belt on that way. I even had to take the alternator back out to try and get more working space.

So, are these new belts? Correct size? Never had trouble with the AC belt if the adjuster is sufficiently loosened. The belt length is not the same for all years. Sometimes the PS belt can be more of a struggle, but, again, make sure the adjuster and bracket bolts are sufficiently loose. Hopefully you have not mixed up the PS and air pump belts.

yeah, I made sure like 5 times that I ordered the belt for the correct year (86). and I also labeled them so I can't confuse them. I'll try loosening the bracket too.

ok I got the PS belt in. thanks Bill for the advice. also how tight should the belt be? ex if I pull at the belt pretty hard should it move like 1cm or 1/2cm or how much?

Rexpontius, thanks for the tip about the s300s. I'll check it out.

Read the numbers off the belts and report them here.
