door mirror removal
I need to remove the mirror on the passenger side of my '89 S4. What is the simplest way to do this? DId a quick search, and didn't come up with anything. The wiring system needs to be repaired.
Thanks for any suggestions. Gary-- (hoping I don't need to put my stubby fat fingers up in some small place inside the door - ha!!). |
Turn the mirror all the way forward to reveal an allen bolt.

Thanks guys, you made my day. I really appreciate the assistance.

Not precisely on point, but a relevant place to reference a useful page:

That isn't the right bolt. M5X45 Cheese head (Allen) is the correct fastener here. |

Does the inner door have to be removed to change out the mirrors from flags to Aeros on an 87 S4? I would have assumed so, but sounds like maybe not.

Everything's done from the outside. |

My drivers side looks like it got busted up by PO and they used electrical tape to rebuild the inner core to hold the mirror in place --- is there a way to rebuild it properly or do I need a new one? thanks, Mike |
And in the "I continue to be somewhat stupid" category I removed the driver's side mirror to see if I could get to the plug (can't) and realized I cracked the paint around the base of the rubber gasket. Ug, fortunately I was planning on repainting this door anyway, looks like I will be taking it completely apart in the spring for a complete repaint/rebuild.
But they will need the car to match it, so it's a pain anyway. Ug. |
