Default 87s4 no start and black wire

87s4. First start after engine refresh. Cranks no start. Tach bounces, oil pressure good. Jumpered fuel relay fuel is there, tried start same thing thing cranks and cranks but doesn't catch.

Swapped lh....same thing.

On reassembly I noticed a wire from the right front eyelet hoist where does this wire go? Itis just bolted to that right front eyelet. I have an unconnected other end.

I tested spark on number 8 cylinder and got spark.

I swapped working horn relays with a bunch relays...still same thing.

Maybe I missed something or connection etc.

That is a ground wire that runs to the right coil to ground to the body.

Thanks so on coil there is a - and plus connector for plug wire this is an extra ground from negative terminal? So there is one for left side as well?

first on the ground wire its connected to the engine lifting lug and the other side gets connected to the bolt that holds the coil bracket to the chassis.

DO NOT attach this ground wire to any terminal of the coil.^^^^^

Make sure that you have connected the computer ground wires securely to the rear of the engine at the back of the V,
these wires being dirty or poorly connected will cause the injectors to stop functioning

OK for some quick testing,
spray a small amount of starting fluid into the intake,
if it starts briefly then you probably have a shorted injector wire.

PLEASE report back after you have performed this test and connected the ground wire to the clamp on the coil bracket

also its possible that you swapped the ISV and knock sensor wires at the rear of the engine
, also its common to swap the CPC for the ISV though then you wouldnt be getting and indication of the tach jumping

I connected ground wire to coil bracket on right side connected to eyelet hoist and bracket coil. On left side behind timing cover upper Allen to coil bracket bolt. I do not have starter fluid.

I tightened ground wires 2 in rear v, 10 mm bolt. No fuel leaks after jump erring fuel relay and pump works.

Oil pressure 5 bar. Tach jumps. Isv and cps correctly hooked up. Air filter off.

Symptoms are clicking noises in relay box, instrument panel lights up, tach jumps, starter churns away but nothing....no attempted start nothing.

Confirm spark on number 8 cylinder...there is spark.

Do no hear injectors clicking nor do I hear fuel pump when relay connected.

New battery, but tested since I was cranking a lot. Multimeter reads 12 v. All electrical functions work...headlights pop up. Seats move etc...

I know that fuel pump doesn't run when I turn key with relay in BC I changed fuel hoses and there was no leaking nor noise. When I jumpered fuel pump I cold hear fuel pump engage and could hear fuel going thru rail and rear engine and found a small leak which I tightened....

At rear of engine in that cramped area, I have 2 small ground wires that bolts to a pedestal where throttle pulley sits. Is there another ground I am missing?

you need to spray some starting fluid into the intake and crank it,
till you do this we are guessing what to do next

Understand, have no access to starter fluid right now. I pulled a plug and does not seem to be wet or gas smelling. Starter sounds laboring...churning.. Pulled battery now 11.8 so I am recharging....

There may be a short on the wires to one of the injectors, the insulation can crack and fall off with the heat, the wires touch. If one shorts, they are all shorted.

Disconnect LH 35way plug, disconnect one injector, measure on the cableform plug of that injector with a multimeter on ohms, should measure about 19/7 = 2.3 ohms. If less than 0.5 ohms you have found the cause of the problem.

Unplugged lh and ERK. Then multimeter to one fuel injector with battery disconnected. Resistance ohm setting 200. Read .5 ohms.

0.5 ohms ? Looks like you have found the problem...

I tightly wrapped some broken insulation on if wires and taking your advice I unwrapped and saw one had a crack there. I remeasured ohms and got 2.5 plus.....

Hooked up lh and ERK and tried to start. Still cranking, no catch....
