Got Wood???

Its a good kit, but to me..it would cause me pause, myself, as a buyer.
It's not a car designed for wood, and the interior design doesnt speak to it, myself..either.
And..knowing the eventual outcome of wood applique kits (peeling around the radio already), I wouldnt want the future hassle either.
Just me.

I'm actually surprised at the number of people saying leave it in.
I thought opinions would run about 50 to 1 to remove it post haste and never admit it was there to begin with...

I would leave the steering wheel and shifter and remove the rest of the wood treatment.
OR remove all of the wood and replace the steering wheel and shifter with stock parts and,'
then sell off the wheel and shifter

I'd remove the temperature sensor trim, but keep it to show the seller that the trim can be removed w/o damage, then offer to remove them all at no expense if requested. You could even keep a picture of a stock black interior on hand...

I vote for the wood. I've got it in my Cadillac, don't have it in my S4 and wish I did. Naturally the workmanship has to be great or it won't be appreciated but if you decide to drop the wood, I'll take it (free, of course).

In principle I agree with the no wood, but OTOH in the US market there were 12 S4's with the XL4 rootwood option (wood center console, door panel, and trim inlays), and 8 with the XL5 option. I would absolutely keep the wood if I owned one of these cars.....
XL4:
6 in 1990
1 in 1993
1 in 1994
4 in 1995
XL5:
1 in 1989
2 in 1990
4 in 1991

Leave it. From the pictures it looks good. The next owner might like it.
Here's a shot of my Rootwood optioned 95. I found out it had wood the day I picked it up. The po didn't say anything about it.

^^^Oh, wow - and you have the CD holder in the door as well! I don't think we've seen more than one or two of those in the US before. Interesting where they mounted the coin holder that is usually in its place...
Have the wood inserts started developing fine cracks? It seems they like to do this when they get exposed to a bit too much sun. You may want to keep the interior covered on hot and sunny days.

Nicole, I've been lucky that I have always had garage parking at work and home. There are a couple of hair line cracks. I try too keep a good furniture treatment on them. I will say they scratch easy so polishing is a routine maintenance item.
The CD holder was nice to have, but it's easy to forget what's in there. The opening button was missing when I bought it. I've fixed it but will have to research what the factory button looked like.

Interesting, I remember when Nicole first showed wood in her '91 S4 and got a lot of positive response.
My particular fancy is a Porsche OEM wood wheel - I have one from a 993 and Gary Knox has a three-spoke 996 wheel. Once you get a wood wheel, then it looks good to complement with some other wood pieces as the OP did.
I agree with Rob that the factory 'rotwood' is beautiful and you see this quite often in cars in the UK for whatever reason.

getting factory wood is a whole different option than aftermarket,
If you had factory wood I would leave it alone as its a rare option.
