DeLoreans were a joke...and still are just an expensive one now. And yes I met John Z was at one of his dog and pony shows at the Belaire Country club where they were trying to raise money to launch the car. They had a prototype on display on the lawn....being who I am I got down and looked UNDER it ....no driveline zero zip nada , they showed a lovely promo film of the car in the hills above Malibu.....always going DOWN HILL ..Yep you got it they rolled it down hill for the filming no need to have a stinking motor !
308 stands for 3 liter and there is just so much you can do with 3 liters and still meet smog requirements and yes I have driven and even worked on a 308 and little magic there just the mystic of the F car name.....

You'd be surprised at what the 328's and 308s are going for.. There is a 308 locally for around 29K (needs lots of work)... another really nice 328 (black) for $49k...but needs nothing. (their trend is up in price)
and I've seen 360's dropping down to the upper 60's...and trends suggest them dropping even further...with 430's following..
Testarossas are harder to judge....30K up to 90k....all dependent on condition...and whether they are the proper color LOL..

I once made the mistake of driving a 328 GTS (I believe). Now I think of the older Ferraris as souped-up FIATs...
The development of and production set-up for a car is way beyond what most entrepreneurs can self-finance. So, to raise money, you have to start somewhere. Showing non-functioning concept cars is not unusual at all for big car companies - why is it not OK for DeLorean?
What made them a joke were the poor choice of the engine, and some other engineering issues - but certainly not that they tried to raise money for innovation with the help of design models and promo videos.

Worth each and every penny.
My progression was 924 ->928 -> Boxster -> 360. The 928 is the ultimate trainer. Any car on earth is your puppet after owning a 928. I never appreciated the 308 until after i got my 360. Then I saw the light.
There is nothing like owning a Ferrari.

Really? don't they have 380 hp. They sure sound pretty good, some say best sounding V8 Ferrari ever made.

I had a 308 QV that I owned about 13 years ago. Very sexy and sounded great but I would say so-so on performance. I never "fit" real well into it so I sold it off and got a TR. Absolutely awesome sound but was just obnoxious and not that great of an around town car...really needed the open road. I always felt that when it came to fit and finish the 308 seemed more like a kit car when compared to the 928.
Had a Delorean along the way also that I bought on a whim and did some restoration to. In the 4 years I owned it I put on about 1100 miles. The reason being that it looked good but was miserable to drive. Uncomfortable and the windows were curved enough that they acted like a magnifying glass in the sun. The powertrain was pathetic and I could maybe spin the tires on smooth wet asphalt....maybe.
I did the engine out service on the TR myself and like any car, just get the repair manuals and get after it. Ferrarichat at the time was good support. I would own a 308 again just because I like the style so much!

the 308 GTS QV is 240hp.
the one i pictured is asking $42k OBO, supposedly concourse condition. already had one 30k ($$$) service done. this one is a euro with no emissions equipment.
surprisingly, my State Farm agent told me the insurance on the 308 would be less than my S4. figure that one
360's and Testarossas aren't in my budget. not without selling the S4 AND the Box, and that won't happen.

just a different style of driving I suppose...but isn't fun when you are caught in the wrong gear .
Over on F-chat there was a discussion on a 355 dyno..here's a post from one of the admins. sounds very similar to 928 numbers...but at higher revs..(they weigh around 3000 I think so some advantage there)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I have done and been around a bunch of 355's on dynos because our NASA class required frequent dyno runs to compute our weight/HP ratio. these were all 355 Challenge cars with mostly stock, but very well cared for engines. No cats and open exhausts. Most with ECU updates.
Most of your stock good 355's will hit high 290's rear wheels. A pretty good running 355 Challenge will get in the 300-320 range. There were a few people with a bunch of tweaking that I saw hit 325's. Probably 6 different 355 Challenge cars, 5 different dynos, and 40+ runs I never saw a number over 330 HP rear wheels."

I agree, they do sound awesome. I haven't driven one..but a friend has...and he said you have to ring it out to get into the power band (probably like the S2000). Doesn't make power till way up in the power band...

Having owned both 308 and 928, plus driven many different Ferraris, they are very different cars as I think I said previously last time this subject came up. 308 is a rawer go-kart experience which is a great fun and an amazing sound, experience. My 928 is more the intercontinal missile, get me A to B quick without fuss and with a few grins. The later 348 and 355 put out similiar power to the S4 and GTS respectively but once again much more a experience in sound and feel than the porsche. Simply put the F cars get used to go to the pub and for a blast in the hills and 928 get used for long distance trips to the south of France.

I also had a 928GTS and 328 at same time and Dictys hit the nail on the head.
For a highway trip longer than 45 minutes I would choose the GTS every time. A great GT that loves the highway. A true luxury car with sporting personality with plenty of torque. For a short run in the twisties for under an hour I would reach for the 328 keys every time. Both cars were the best for their intended purpose. Their purposes where just slightly different.
