Cherohala Skyway Run to SITM May 31st
Is anyone planning a Friday run to SITM this year. I know many of you do the Alcoa run, but since there is going to be a bunch of harleys on the tail this year is anyone interested in running east along the Cherohala Skyway and the Blue Ridge Parkway?
I'm planning on shacking up in a Marriott Thursday night just outside of Knoxville:

FYI, I can get studio rooms with one queen and a sofa bed for $69 through the friends and family rate. If anyone needs a room.
If so please post here.
I did a map, but I'm not tied to it as I'm sure many of you know possibly better routes. So feel free to give me your input or route suggestions.

We have three cars coming up from Chattanooga on Friday. We don't have a departure time yet but we would love to meet up for that run. We are approx 90 minutes from your start point.

Great, I guess we will have more of a count when we get closer. Perhaps we could get a few sharks together for a greasy spoon breakfast to start off the day.

Our plans are to arrive somewhere late Thursday and do the Cherohala, then thinking about following Andrew's 2010 route, a bit farther north.
We're booked at Alcoa but that is easily changed, would be good to meet up Thurs evening.
The Dragon is fun, but Cherohala is epic! You just need a red car running point
Here is Andrew's 2010 route: (Linky: http://goo.gl/maps/0kLi

Since I have never been, taking a tried and tested route works for me.

Are there any other SITM threads going? Freaking search does a wonderful job of NOT finding anything.
My youngest son and I will be driving the red-eye up from Florida on Friday evening. My oldest son has a graduation ceremony on Friday evening. My youngest and I are going to drive like He!! Friday night until I get tired and then get up at 5 or 6AM and finish the drive on Saturday AM.
Any Saturday drivers from GA or the Carolinas, we might be on the road when you are

As Jim mentioned, a number of people typically stay in Alco (Comfort Suites) on Thursday night. I've never done the Tail, but have run the Cherohala several times.

Yep!
It's a 16 - 18 hour run from here. (Depends on pit stops).

Not sure about my timing. If I can peel out Thursday afternoon I will be there. It's always by far the best part of my journey. I will follow my route from past years - but as I've said before, we all have our big boy (and big girl) pants on. You are welcome to go whichever route you wish. Go at whatever speed you wish. I will not expect you to wait for me, nor I for you.
