Default 928's Heading to Porsche Parade, June 23 - 29?

We are putting together a group of 928 owners planning to head to Traverse City, MI for the 2013 Porsche Parade, (June 23-29).

http://parade2013.pca.org/overview.html

Location:

It is an excellent opportunity to drive our GT's on those remarkable, twisty, glacial roads.

If you are planning on attending the Parade, post your intentions in this thread.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A bunch of 928's will be attending the Parade... Here is a brief synopsis as of 5/11/13:
1. 992c2cab, Will probably drive the Turbo Cab and stay on Torch Lake. Knows the area and is willing to lead a drive and some other activities... ;-)
2. Spock04, Will be driving up from Minneapolis in his 91 GT and hears that "quite a few 928's will be showing up all week". Bring em on!
3. Jim Doerr, (from 928 Classics) will come up in his 78 Euro and knows the area.
4. davek9 and Kristine will be bringing TWO 928's!
5. Ninespub, is heading up from Saginaw (hopefully in his 91 S4) and will be staying in Traverse City with a friend. He knows the area and may be able to suggest meeting spots, bars & places for people to stay together.
6. James, From the 928 Owners Club, may be able to help us organize a meeting/parking corral through PCA. WOW!!!
7. auzivision, Will drive up from Indianapolis (perhaps with the rev limiter) perhaps not. May want to share a condo for a 928 Frat House ***Great Idea***
8. Dave (me) will be driving down from Crooked Lake in the 90 GT (cottage is too far of a commute or it would be a bomber frat house).
9. CTYH Coming up Sunday through Tuesday, Needs lodging, so anyone wanting to share accommodations should PM him
10. Lanseer is hoping to get a group together from Elkhart, Dubuque and St Charles!
11. victor25 is supercharging his way up at least one supercharged 928
12. GeorgeM is coming from Virginia Beach, VA with his concourse 91 GT!
So we have over a dozen 928's heading up to the awesome roads of Northwestern Michigan.
Lets get it shaking with our local friends and make this one a blast!
"Life's too short to leave em sitting shiny in the garage"
Man, that's my old backyard.
Was hoping to have #6 ready to show there, just not in the cards.
However, just looking for the right opportunity to travel there in my 78 Euro with my Dad.
What a perfect time of the year to be in the northern LP! I know some really sweet backroads up that way.
Gonna be there. It's my anniversary week and we always stay there for a few days at a friend's crib right on the West Bay of Traverse City. It's a great town with plenty of places to go and things to do and see. Don't know if the '91 $$$$4 will be there yet though, a full-body respray has gotta happen first and my new full-leather dash, pod and console have to be installed with LED's. davek9: Hint, hint.
This is sounding good!
Clearly there will be a large group of us heading up. I'm considering entering the "Street Level" concourse as my car is not exactly stock. Also thinking about entering the autocross because the venue seems to be perfect... The drive to the dunes should also be fun. So much to do!
What else are the rest of you going to be participating in?
Seems a lot of the drives are full?!? Not sure how that works with tagalongs but I'd be willing to be a tour guide for anyone interested in some great drives. I did not sign up for any of the tours. Plan to be up there all week.
Gonna be a good 928 turn out. I have been to several Parade's and I bet I have not seen more than 5 928's at any one of them. At least not being displayed anywhere obvious.
James,
My guess is that we have to organize ourselves and agree to try and park together (where?) in order for any presence to be noted.
In Florida, we have a large group that gets together at Daytona or Sebring whenever there are large or national events there. Various events have seen over 20 928's in attendance with prominent parking being provided via co-ordination with the event organizers.
Since you have been to a bunch of Parades. Do you think that if we get 15-30 cars coming at a specific time, we can set up a 928 "corral"?
I agree... I keep hoping we will have more folks join the 928 Owners Club and that we will get some recognition from PCA at large. I have an in there that I am about to hit up to see what she thinks PCA can do for US! Probably nothing, but certainly if we don't ask we won't get any PCA support! My region here in Austin is actually a great region. I was president/VP/Concours Chair for many years. We were the fastest growing region of our size when I was Pres and we got a really nice PCA National Award for it! Super cool!
I have had great luck with the PCA but I know other 928 owners have not been so fortunate. If we can show them we are organized and can be a group that can enhance the PCA I think they will be able to do stuff to help us out with the 928 Owners Club... www.928oc.org
Hope springs eternal with me anyway!
992c2cab,
Thanks for your input. Your idea to lead a private tour sounds great! Given that your Torch Lake location is so close and you have local knowledge of the roads, I'd like to take you up on that offer.
I sail out of Little Traverse Yacht Club in Harbor Springs and spend my summers in a cottage on Crooked Lake (near Petoskey) so I know the M19 (Tree Tunnel), in case that drive is of interest?
Regards,
DD
James,
I just printed the 928oc membership form. Here comes a re-up for four years...
Thanks for the reminder of the value of the club!
I plan on heading up, but don't have any plans for accommodation. At least will be there for the parade weekend.
Trying to talk the rev limiter into going and making a summer vacation out of it, but she's not biting yet. Even when I suggested we could spend some time on Mackinac.
Maybe we could get a few guys to go in on renting a beach front condo and turn it into a a frat house for the weekend end. Seriously, the primary Resort is already booked, but it might be fun to have a primary 928 hotel picked out.
