James,

Any luck with setting up a designated 928 parking paddock at the Parade?

Regards,

DD

Default Heading up next week...

I'll be heading up to the cottage next week. Definitely looking forward to getting the GT out of it's slumber in the garage and fired up for some fun on the twisty's this summer.

The parade is only three weeks away!

Will be driving up on Saturday the 22nd, in TC on Sunday. Concours event on Monday.

Looking for overnight accomodations on Sunday night for me and my Dad.

Reason for posting it here is because it would be great to "hang out" with Porsche people (928 guys) that evening.

Thanks!

Default The Parade

Just arrived in Michigan and fired up the 928. All I did was connect the ground strap and twisted the key. It fired right up and is running great! Next week I'll blast down to Traverse City to scout out some possible meeting places for us. Any suggestions from locals will be appreciated!

Frat house???

The 928 Owners Club is graciously shipping banner and the PCA is working on a spot for us to have a car corral if we get an adequate number of cars involved...

So far there are about a dozen that have shown interest. It would be better to have 25-30!

See you in a two weeks!

Looks like Rob may come out from Nebraska and trailering his hot rod. He is looking into making a vacation out of it and staying somewhere in the the pinky

I'm working on my plans now. Looks like I will only be able to be there Saturday afternoon & evening, and Sunday AM.

I was hoping to participate in the parade, but now I'm not sure... looking at registering now. If I understand it correctly, it's $239 ($159 reg, $30 guest and $50 late fee) for entry and another $60/head for dinner plus re-upping my PCA dues. That's a little steep for just a drive. I'm not not able to make the week long event and am exploring alternatives.

I'm still thinking it would fun to 'see' the event, but I'm not going to spend $200+ for a half day of fun. Now more than ever I realize the importance to have a 928 meeting place external to the 'official' event.

Hard to believe it less than 2 weeks away.

Kurt,
You could go up just for the concours on Monday (stay the night Sunday). That event is open to the public, I think (?).

I'm beginning to wonder how much of this is open to the public myself. My interest isn't as great as it once was, but I still have time off and plans to be in Michigan the weekend (28-30)... not real flexible there. Jim, will you be sticking around? It's would be nice to see you.

Little did I know that one of the main attractions is the concours event which is on Monday. When I heard about "The Parade" in the past... I imagine a bunch of Porsches lined up nose to tail driving in a huge caravan. So I peeked at the event schedule a long time ago, saw the Parade was on Saturday and set my sights accordingly.

Since I'll be in Lansing anyways, I'd still like to come up for Saturday's parade (maybe as just a by stander) and hopefully meet up with some 928 guys. I haven't commited to accomodations, and according to Hotels.com; the pickings are slim. hampton, Day Inn, Knights Inn, Sleep Inn, Great Wolf Lodge, or Shanty Creek (which I've stayed at before during ski season, but it's 25 miles away)

Basically looking for a place for my Brother and I for Saturday night. Of those that are think about going on Saturday, has anyone picked a hotel. Note surprisingly, Google show most hotels are charging 200 to over 300% more this weekend. If I don't stay in TC, I'd be more apt to go north to Charlevoix, Petoskey, Harbor Springs area. It's been a long time since I've been to this part, but I recall it was very nice and could eat breakfast with a view of Lake Michigan for about half price.

I am pretty much with you on this one. I was just planning to drive up Friday afternoon or Saturday morning to hang with 928ers and check things out. Probably spend a night or two and come home. This is during the cherry festival so everything is very busy.
I looked the parade up online last night and it is definitely different than I thought. I have been to a few 928 get togethers, including the OCIC, and they are very casual. This does not appear to be so casual. It appears to be a longer and structured event. I would be good with just meeting up with the 928 pep's, checking out the parade, taking a fun drive, and just having fun.

The autocross would be a riot though!!

I guess you weren't at the Parade 2008 in Charlotte then? ChuckZ had Kermit and perhaps even his low mile GTS in the Concours area... plus me and several others in the Corral or Paddock (outlying of the main concours). I believe both areas were grouped by model versus by year.

Yep... it is pricey. Probably set up to keep the unwashed masses away. It is free to walk through but your car is perhaps miles away wherever you parked it. All of the published car photos WILL ONLY come from the concours area... not the corral or paddock (whatever they call it). So, for that fee... you get some vinyl window numbers, a 'goodie bag' of participant items (only to find out later that the public can buy those same identical items in the Goodie Store), the privelege of parking in the 'reserved' spaces... and if you pay for the banquet -you can possibly win drawing giveaways.

Yes, it is a VERY structured event... with the banquet dinner evening being the 'money shot' of self-serving awards and pats on the back to a very select few. Some of the Porsche family will be there. They say 'business casual' is the norm for the dress code -but some apparently work in the tuxedo business. BE WARNED... if you buy someone else's banquet tickets because they can't make it -you won't have a chance to win any of the free giveaways (like sets of tires) because each ticket is linked with their name not yours.

Lessons learned... if I do the Parade again -it will have to be with a Q-tip cleaned garage queen for concours, covered trailer delivered, with 2 free weeks to spend -1 week to touch up the details and 1 week for the event.

Not likely.

Hi Eric, I'll be there on the 29th. Love to see your GTS, do you still have the white S4 from Texas?

I've elected to book a room at the Hampton Inn with option to cancel if an alternative location is selected. It's on the "Parade Route" and has a water view. I'm really not too particular, it's only going to be for one night anyways.

There is a Hooters about 3/4ths a mile down the street... Unless I hear otherwise, I'd like to propose we meet there. The food isn't the greatest, but the decor is usually decent. Might be a good place to take in the sights!

I'm thinking car wash:
