Default Can the fuel pump itself leak?

Yesterday I noticed a drip of fuel coming from under the tray that covers the fuel pump. Put the car on my lift, removed the tray and found it dripping fuel when running. Not good.
At first I suspected the connections to the hard line to the filter. But I took a closer look.

It looks like fuel is leaking from the rim of the output side of the fuel pump.
That side of the pump looks like a can with a lid pressed in at the top. The rim holding the lid in.
Has anybody seen a pump leak like this before?

I guess I am in need of a new fuel pump. And The assembly rubbers to hold it. The rubbers were badly dissolved by the fuels...

Default Now with pictures

With pictures now. Leaking pump. No leak at fuel line, but along the edge of the top of the fuel pump?

That's where the pump end plate, which has a seal on it, slides inside the outer casing. The outer casing is crimped over at two points, to hold the end plate of the pump in position within the outer body/canister.

I'd just replace the pump, and wouldn't try to uncrimp/crimp the body and replace the seal/o-ring.

Put on a new hard line, filter and short hose WYAIT.

Thanks for the confirmation Dave. I will finally have some time now to do the other actions on the list. Cracked expansion tank, heater blower motor, heater resistor... While I wait for the fuel pump.

Exactly where mine leaked. By VERY careful removing crossover pipe. It twists very easily then you're hosed. Good to have a used backup pipe on hand. Got mine (after I mangled it) from 928 Int.

I agree with the above advice to simply replace the fuel pump. BTDT unfortunately..

That is the area the blew out on my fuel pump when I was pressure testing my system. Found out my fuel return sender was clogged from bad gas sitting in it for so long. Lines built pressure and the pump is the only thing that failed. I have no idea what the pressure was in the system but it was a loud burst.
