You're looking at it backwards: the 991 Turbo is the new 928. It's a versatile GT car that can be used as a DD in which you can have a few minutes of insane fun every once in a while.

Also, Joe-^ has to have all of those 911s to compensate for accidentally selling his '94 GTS

I currently own both. A 71e that i styled as an RS. fun car to drive. and an 88 S4. Also have a 944. Each car is different. Each is fun to drive. Still working out the bugs on the 928. All my cars have been rescue cars, and long term projects. I like the fact that i have something nice when I am finished. But the problem is that I never seem to be finished.

Dave I am floored but when you look at it that way I agree. Never took you for a 911 driver. Nice TT and great experience. Enjoy it, those turbos are very easy to get into trouble with.

When I was in High-School I was of course a 911 Turbo fan-boy... it wasn't until I specifically got a job as a car jockey at the local Porsche dealership in 1988 that I grew to appreciate and love the 928 and 951.

I drove the boss' silver 928 S4 to gas up and detail in the lower bay, and marveled at it's smooth, quiet power and wrap-around leather clad cocoon. At one point we took delivery of a Midnight Blue 928 GT and I got the chance to take it out. That motor and a manual transmission made an indelible mark that I still yearn for today. Laying rubber with ease at part-throttle. Sadly, I still have never been in a GTS.

The top salesman had a Silver Rose 951 Turbo S complete with the heady cloth interior that made one young jockey comment "Somewhere in this city, a clown's pants are missing...". I really took a liking to that car, including the well appointed interior in my eyes. On one excursion I used this car to follow a salesman taking a black on black 1986 930 to the owners lakeshore condo so he could take it to an event at Mosport over the weekend. I was impressed that I was never left behind by the 930, and I sure didn't sound like I was trying as hard!

Richard Spenard's 911 was on the lot for sale and I took it out a few times. I think it was an 81 SC. Something like a Minerva Blue or such. I can't even remember if it was a targa... I would have appreciated it more now, but at the time I was thoroughly smitten with the '86 930. It was a brutal car with a binary ON or OFF drive-train that left my arms tingling with adrenaline the first time I took it around the block. I soon learned to drive it well, always cruising at the threshold of boost. Ripping through the gears so hard that the car would twitch sideways with wheel-spin... 2nd gear topping out at 140 km/h was more than ample for side streets . I loved that car, and it showed, as I was often asked to detail it before an event. It was something close to "Christine" when that wet shammy came out cleaning and exploring every nook and cranny, LOL

Today, my fave would still be the 930... But alas, I have done things backwards. Still saving for a 930 driver. The cars I have at the moment are all so different, that I have no favorite as such. The 911 is fun when I want to wake the dead and drive a go cart legally on the street. Fantastic feel, but such a basic creature. The 928 feels downright space-aged afterwards. Quiet effortless cruising, chosen when I know I have some distance to cover. The 951 is right in the middle. More confident handling, yet more basic in comfort and feel than the 928. What a rocket, probably the quickest of them all...
