Default '89 S4 Acts Like it's flooded. What's problem.

Had this issue twice now. After washing car and putting back in garage (only started for minute or less), when I go to start car a day or two later it acts like it's flooded. I have to crank endlessly before it will start (killed battery and had to recharge). When it finally catches it runs very roughly and billows white smoke. After that, everything is fine with no recurring issues. When this first happened I thought maybe something got wet b/c I was washing car. However, symptoms are more like it's flooded and needs to clear out the excess fuel. Can anyone tell me what's going on and how to fix/prevent. Thanks.

Common problem when a 928 is started only briefly. It's then running on a very rich cold start mixture that sits in the cylinders when you switch off. Then it floods on attempted restart.

Best to drive the car around the block of a few times to warm it up properly. Then you won't have a restart problem.

I agree with John, but it could also be a bad coil wire. My GT acted like this when I washed it until I discovered a cracked coil wire. But I suspect John is correct on this.

If it is flooded, hold the gas all the way to the floor when re-starting and tell people behind the car to watch out for the black cloud that will be exiting the car momentarily.

Did you test your Temp II ? Make sure it's in spec with a multimeter. Specs on jdsporsche.com site I believe.
