Challenge as I see it is the fact that the 928 dash slops down to meet the center console and glove box.

Whatever you choose to use you would really need to mathch the sloped portion of the dash to the console and not have it clash with the rest of the interior.

I don't believe it needs to be metal. If you watch some of the production videos on the first site, they coat damn near anything and everything.

I think that if you found the right place that's capable of doing this, I imagine they could get pretty close or match the interior color as not to clash completely with a black area in an otherwise cork interior.

Default Half & Half

I had Rob Budd do mine in a combination leather/Alcantara. Cut down on glare significantly. Still looks good with the blue car.

Hold On; That is exactly how mine is done and it works great, I had the door panels done to match the wrap around affect.

That's my theory, non-reflective material on the pod and the portion of the dash surrounding the defroster vents ...

Hey Dave, Great minds think alike. I also want to do the wrap around to doors with the Alcantara. If You have a pic of door panel, post it up. I`m getting ready to send off those panels to Rob Budd. Thanks, Kevin

Finally getting around to this project.

Has anyone married a dark color along the top surface to a lighter color cabin facing surface matching the rest of the interior - two tone in essence.?

I had a dash cap covered with "street suede" Alcantara substitute about $20 per yard
glued it to my old beat up dash and pod. Glare was a big issue for me and this has really taken care of this issue,
I did not use the silicon glue that comes with the dash cover but an industrial adhesive.

I haven't had any problem with dust sticking to it or lint. So far so good..
The pod came out really well. This material comes in various colors and if I were to do it again I might consider more a dark grey ( charcoal ) rather than black.

Default Noobie w/dash "character"...

Aloha... I recently acquired a 1984 928S which has a number of cracks in the dash. I'll have to follow up with a picture later as I'm currently in Cali and yet to be named shark is in Hawaii.

Anyhoo- reviewing options- it seems like:
-replace
-cover (variety of choices: flock, carpet, vinyl, leather, etc.)
-have revitalized professionally

Black exterior and interior btw.

I'm reading posts here that there are a variety of methods to reduce glare- but which dash coverings do y'all prefer (work the best) or are absolutely horrible? Imv- cheap carpet options are kinda tacky, replacing/refurbishing dash probably optimal- but what options rank in the top five in quality, durability, etc.?

I started to reply to some earlier posts about flocking, but then read the date stamps - late to the party! But since the topic has been somewhat revived, my observations:

I flocked the cassette box lid as a test last summer, as I figured it might be the most abused part of the interior as I rest my greasy arm there constantly when driving. It has held up much better than I expected, and as a result I am flocking the dash and pod in a few days (part of an HVAC and instrument refresh project). Why flock? For the same reason I dipped the car last fall- I want the 928 to look reasonably good until I have a chance to properly refinish it, paint of course for the exterior, not sure yet about the interior. (My first attempt at pod and dash repair was a miserable fail, the cracks I tried to fix reappeared within months, and I'm hoping I'll avoid that this time.) Dip peels easily, and the prep on the dash for flocking will leave a good substrate for recovering later- the flock sands off fairly easily. I just got the EL panels - the last parts I need - for the new instrument gauge faces today, a couple more HVAC parts to install, and in a week or so I should be able to post pics of the new setup.

Another reason to take this route is it's fun, pure and simple. New stuff to experiment with. And besides, at least on the dipyourcar forum I'm learning some new vocabulary...

Martin,
I plan on dipping my silver 928 Aluminum too. How did it come out?
Did you clear coat it afterwards?
Also will be interested in seeing your dash and POD flocked!
