Thanks for the encouragement: Restore has BEEN FINISHED.
 

Well.....we have started working on the restore. I do not plan on making the engine look new. I am more concerned that it runs right and is dependable.
I do not have the same plans for the outside and interior....which will look new.

As previously posted, my 13 year old son plans to help with the restore. He gets really excited when he gets to actually use a tool. Kinda...fun to see.

I took a few shots of us working, as we are getting ready to complete another top refresh and install a Porken Tensioner and new timing belt.

1st picture is my son getting the hoses prep'd for the new Y connector that is notorious for breaking under the fender. He also was under the car removing the fan shroud.

I had to run to a Autozone and then to Lowes in order to make a hose that is no longer available. One end is larger than the other...so two hoses with a compression fitting between them.

Also plan to fix the hole in my air tube since its impossible to find used ones for an 85/86.

We have tons to do.....hope to be done with drivetrain within the next month or two....then off to paint.

Fantastic, getting your son in on the project! Also, kudos on the safety glasses, good to get him in the habit now.

That is great! Building memories with your children. My daughter and myself rebuilt a truck together. We still talk about it. The truck is still in the family.

That's saweet, hopefully that will build a lasting bond between you and him and maybe get him into cars. My Dad is retired now but used to be a contractor and knows pretty much everything about woodworking/construction, we built 2 wooden sailboats together. He isn't really into cars though, it was my buddy with his red 5.o 90 Mustang GT that got me into cars.

Nice story.., and plus one for the safety aspect!..., looks like you have a budding partner there, no such luck with me, I,m the only member in my family that has an "obsession" with cars..., even my son in law has no interest.
But hopefully the latest addition to the family , my new grandson Jack will. I,m gonna start him young (he,s all of six weeks) and hopefully he can take on the mantle that is my lovely old 928. I,d love him to want it when he,s older ?:)

Just got home from work and my son was leaving for soccer practice. He asked if we are going to work on the car tonight...I told him I planned on it. He said "Don't do very much until I get back". I know its just day two...and I hope it does not rub off.....as I think he may actually get into this.

Really cool!!! I tried to get my 12 yr old son to help me with the car and he is sooooo not into it... at all. Some kids get into it and some kids dont I guess. Good luck with the car! I hope you both enjoy it :) Keep us posted and again LOTS of pics!!!

Got some more done tonight. We were able to get the front of the motor off. Next is get the timing belt off and tensioner....then major cleaning. My new PORKEN tensioner arrived today...so I will be posting some pictures after the weekend when we get it installed. Just a couple of pics tonight:

I decided it would be a good idea if I installed the flywheel lock. You can see how much oil is even back there. Between the tensioner, air cond compressor, oil pan, cam covers, and cam seals....I have plenty of blood....but never enough to ever leave a drop on the ground.....

What we got accomplished by the end of the night....while we worked only during commercials (had to watch American Idol). And....how I love taking off that freaking pulley screw!!! I sweated 10 lbs in 3 minutes.
