All this head unit talk made me motivated to install my Blaupunkt CD43 (Rover/BMW OEM). I like the features better than my Reno SQR46. It has a bluetooth adapter yet to be installed. What do you think?

Michael - I like it a LOT. If buying new aftermarket we all kinda have to settle for head units filled with features - and small buttons. I don't bother learning half of the features. This is perfectly simple.

This CD43 unit is quite a bit nicer sounding than the SQR46. It has 3x the radio presets, stronger tuner, and the balance fader controls fully shift from one side to the other, much more so than the SQR46. The RDS feature is an added bonus and the fit was perfectly flush with the trim.
The Bluetooth interface is in the mail. Supposedly it will display the song played and the track selectors will work as will. I'll report out when I have it.

Those BMW Business CD units are dirt cheap and look great.

Yeah same here. Simple is better. I really struggled trying to use the basic features on my CarPlay unit while driving, never mind trying to tune the sound. That was impossible while driving. I have a new found respect for a well designed and usable head unit.

Wiring up the CD43
Here is a picture of the back of the head unit:
When I ordered my unit, I requested to have the wiring harness included. It looked something like this
A couple internet searches and I was able to identify the wire codes and the respective purposes and was able to map them to my car. In my car I have the original radio connector (5-pins). I was able to connect those fairly easily
- Main ground
- main power (ACC)
- Antenna power (can also be used to turn on amp)
- battery power (constant power for memory)
I used spade connectors and plugged them directly into the OEM harness. This took about 30min. No hacking of factory wires.
For the speaker outputs (4 speakers), I installed RCA connectors on them to plug directly into my amp interconnect cable.
The BMW harness has some wires that you won't use:
- speed input for speed sensitive volume ("GAL")
- phone input for muting radio when the phone is on ("PHONE/MUTE")
- dimmer input for dash lights ("LUM")
I didn't get any photos of the harness because I didn't think you all would be interested in my nerdiness. But when I install the bluetooth adapter I'll snap some photos.
