Brian's 79 REHAB
Over the last several weeks I have been slowly removing the interior of the 1979 5 sp that will be my driver (hopefully.....someday....maybe). The rear interior Qtr panels have been out for months and have been re-stretched and are awaiting new Cork dye. The console is out and cleaned and also, awaiting new Cork dye. The pod, the dash and a "new to me" armrest are being re-covered. The rear seats and the rear console have been removed and will not be re-installed. I finally removed the last of the carpet and with the exception of the door panels and a little cleaning, it is as stripped as it is going to get. I will try to record the re- assembly and once together will assemble some nice before and after photos.
The next step is installing the new carpet set that I purchased from Classic 9 and ordering the Cork dye from Leatherique.
Oh, and here is the new steering wheel I picked out.

Jim that one is nice too, but it is more like the old 356 wheel. I like the more modern wood "momo" style, hadn't seen that one before.

Thanks Ed. I looked for months to find something that would complement the cork interior. The pod is being redone in cork vinyl from Bob. I had considered trying some vinyl accents and a new horn button on the steering wheel, but when I opened the box it was perfect just the way it was. Very rugged and very old school. Maybe not 928 specific, but it will help set apart the interior.

I like that one better than the wood 3 spoke. They are all pretty sweet though.

$200 +/-
$30 upcharge for Porsche color and shipping. Should be plenty for door panels, console and rear interior panels, glove box......Whatever else I can find. I will probably re-assemble the whole thing before making a decision on the seats. I have three options priced out but I need to do lots of work and replenish the till before worrying about them too much.

Here are the before pics of the rear QTRs. You can see a small square sample of the original color. Serious fading..., but hey, it's a 79. They are soaking in leather rejuvenator for the night and will be cleaned with the "pristine clean" from leatherique tomorrow and if I am lucky they will be scrubbed/sanded with the prepping agent Wednesday.

Some other items receiving the treatment. I may end up recovering the tool tray or replacing it altogether. I have deleted the rear wiper so I need to fill in the gaps. I have considered making a panel to hold a couple of small speakers. I would prefer going that route if I can pull off a "stockish" look. Still undecided, but I have plenty of cork vinyl on its way.
