The relay in position #3 is NOT a 53 type and is umarked on side facing out. It is purple in colour if that means anything.
Bertrand, is that a Bosch part #? |
I put the relay in my 1990 s4 and the DRLs work great

Take a look at the Philips DRL site. You can upload a photo of your car and see what the LED DRL will look like

plus the lighting is much colder than the other lights.
Warm white LED's will match the original 928 lights better, assuming they can be found in an automotive application. I have warm and cool white LED's as part of the Christmas decor. |
I think the stock DRL system and many others like it are just stupid...
Putting the fogs on without any rear lights leads to folks driving around at dusk/night thinking they have lights on when they really don't... There are enough morons about who drive at night without lights - without encouraging more of them . I think all DRL implementations should include marker lights as well. Alan |

On a 928 the dash lights are always on with the ignition - not just when DRLs are on - But I agree that doesn't help either...
Alan |
I don't think my dash lights come on when the lights are off.
What I know for sure it's that they come on when I turn the switch to the first position (parking lights) with the green signal that tells me that the lights are on. |

Older S4's and before may not do this - but I believe all digidash do - that should include the '91.
Its realy not so obvious in daytime - but sit in the car at night and turn the ignition on... Alan |
I was thinking more about it during lunch time and you're right...
When I turn the lights on the gear indicator goes darker, so it has to be on (brighter) when close. You're right Alan, not so obvious in daytime. Sorry, my bad. |
I never used the fog lights, so I installed a set of LED H-3's in place of the Halogen H-3's and installed the proper relay (it was OE for the lucky guys up north of the border in Canada). The LED's wouldn't produce much light in case of fog, but it is plenty to show up as DRL's. I also have protectant polymeric covering on my fog lenses, so didn't want too much heat build up with the Halogens.
That relay is OE on VW's and Audi's. Readily available for about $5 on eBay. Gary |
I put in the Audi relay as well and it works great. I think it's a nice safety improvement for those of us with darker (harder to see) cars.
And there's no way I'll forget to turn on my headlights. They're a signature feature of the 928, and watching them pop up is still a special event for me... |
