Ok i'll play. So the old Hardly Dangerous design was sooo powerful and sooo technically advanced that they had to destroy them to save us all from ourselves, and no one (manufacturer) has ever been able to surpass that design!!!!! LMFAO!!

Good thing for Hardly Dangerous they got Porsche to design their V-Rod engine!!

I never said they were the most technically advanced or that Harley had them destroyed to protect the public, or that no other manufacurer has ever surpassed the JDH design. You did.

An 88 cubic inch JDH will out accelerate a stock V-Rod, or any other stock big twin Harley Davidson. It's the HP to weight ratio.

Walter Davidson had the JD parts and spares destroyed, because he hated the fact that Harley's new OHV Sportster got dusted at the Big Bear Hill Climb. Also Hank Ross was an independent rider, and he beat the factory sponsered Harley Racing Team. Oh, and Walter had to give the $5000.00 check to Hank too. There's a picture of the presentation At Pat O Brian's bar in Big Bear.

The world land speed record on a motorcycle is held by Dave Campos at 322mph and a set of 1491 CC Ruxton Harley Davidson "Shovelhead" top end, cone motor bottom end engines. Shovelhead engines have been out of production since 84. That record has stood for 22 years. Where's the hotdog rice rockets?
BTW, Harley engines can't turn over 5 grand without busting a crank pin, but they build so much HP, and torque, they don't need to.

Harley does nothing to support their classic designs. But advertise that you can see Harleys from any year of production still on the streets of America. That is a fact, they're out there.

Walt, anytime you'd like to run what ya got, I'm more than willing to put up one of my 2 JD's for a 1/4 mile run at the Las Vegas Speedway drag strip. You may be a little suprised at my 83 year old rocket.

Since this thread is soooo off topic and just to poke fun... My 12 yr old son has a joke he loves to tell my HD friends. "Did you hear... theres a little-known fact that 98% of all Harley Davidson motorcycles EVER built are still on the road today...? They all look at eachother rather impressed with this 'little known fact'... until he finishes with... "The other 2% made it HOME..." LOL!!! Cracks him up every time...

Sorry, but ya gotta admit that-there is funny!!!

Seen Vrods that are regular street bikes run 7.6's in 1/8th mile
and thats quicker than most supercharged 928's only a few have real time slips with that.
Like someone was saying stock 928 wouldn't have a chance from 0-60.
They don't accelerate very fast from a stop.

From watching the 80's TV commercials a "Porsche 928 can go from 0 to 60 and back to 0 in 9 seconds..." with a tech guy in a white lab coat standing in front of the car... Thats good enough for me as I REALLY like that it can STOP faster than it can GO!

I was thinking of the german world record cars of the 30's when I read this, but didn't post anything. Designed by Prof Porsche.

Saw this today and decided to give it a few minutes, watched the whole thing. Incredible cars in 37,38, and 39.

What is that in a 1/4?

If an R1 had hard time keeping up, starting at ~25mph and for two gears, do you really think a Harley would stand a chance? In the motorcycle world, even the mighty Vrod is considered a slow bike.

Now that would be hard to say since the track ended in the 1/8th mile
but usually 1/8th mile time can be estimated by dividing by .65
which 7.6 is closer to 11.7 area in 1/4 mile.
Or going from 1/4mile time to 1/8th mile
11.7 multiply by .65=7.6
Its not exact depending on the setup of the vehicle but gives a general idea of time area.

Drag races don't start at 25mph.
Newer R1's run mid 10's in the 1/4 mile and with a good rider,928 isn't going to stand a chance.
Comparing a Harley to a R1 is like comparing a 928 to a 997TTS.
Cruiser vs Sport.
When you run with these guys in the 9's let us know.

Out on the street, more often than not, that's exactly where drag races start and the R1 comparison started before you decided to chime in. This is fun but it's turning into a my dick is bigger than your argument and I'm aint no Ron Jeremy.

Oval track racing starts at cruising speed sounds more like Nascar, racing starts after a yellow flag is out everyone cruising together and floors it.That is not drag racing, real drag racing starts from stop.
That type of racing you say is fun till you get caught, better off keeping it at the track. As in all racing there always is and will be someone faster as we never see the post of how many bikes or other cars left someone in the dust.Sounds like an old Deep Purple song "Highway Star"nobody gonna beat my car.
