After many many weeks, I arrived at the point of putting stuff together. It was a great relief.
The block turned out to be perfect. Alusil is hard as stone. Pistonrings replaced, bearings replaced, oil pump checked and approved. here we go

As I reached the top end of the engine, I decided to start polishing more and more components. With the help of a good friend I took on the oil separator and the intake manifold.
In the meantime, December was here. And time to drive the car simply didn't exist anymore, so it was time to strip it.
But first, another decision needed to be made. I got weary of the red interior (Sorry, Randy) especially because it was in less than ok state. I already tucked the seats away in a safe place and replaced them with black leather S4 seats, but as you can tell. The rest needed a solution too.
With all the running investments, having it upholstered was out of the question. I have no idea how to work leather, so I thought I'd try something else, alcantara. The purpose was to create a nice interior that would last one summer. Then, I''l get a professional involved, to do it right.
I spent a lot of evenings upholstering in the living room, while my wife was watching TV. She was quite happy I was out of the basement for some time.
Here are some of the things I managed to produce

the box
In order for me to continue on the engine, the old one had to come out. I needed components from it. And there was also the gearbox syncro that needed changing.
I neglected to take pictures of the gearbox overhaul, but it was an adventure like the others. I went in with 2 new syncro's and a couple of keys, but as I opened it up,out came another surprise.
I could not believe the box still worked as it did. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and reverse all had damaged teeth and worn syncro's. Every dentist would have escorted their patient out the door. Not an option.
I was fortunate enough to find 2 G07 boxes that were damaged for a decent price. One was used to take the selectors off, the other had a broken off pinion gear. Between all of these I found the necessary gears to create a complete gearbox. Ordered new bearings (except the primary shaft input), extra syncro's and put it back together. I was quite nervous if this would hold up.

Military folk and, for example, teachers who are posted overseas can bring a car with them there and back. My '77 924 parts car is just such a vehicle and a Euro to boot! It's hard to see in the picture but it has a Lexan sunroof and roof-mounted arial (sp?)

Great Thread and great work.
Burgundy interiors -- my favorite after aftermarket cork/black mix and factory all leather black. All pics of Burgundy interiors have to be looked at loosely as lighting and camera quality changes the tint/appearance greatly. They do tend to fade and mine has to some extent.
1st shot - My 85 euro interior - amazing leather quality, the seats have no wear, no cracks, no bolster problems;
2nd shot - The nicest burgundy interior I have seen;

How time flies when you're having fun!!! In all honesty, my 928 ran in to an extreme delay which I would like to share as well. But now i see that I never got to finish the previous story.
So without further ado,..... let's

My interior was giving me headaches, and I mean that literally.
My wife was not happy having me redo the upholstery in the living room while she was watching tv. But we made it through and have found many other things to argue about.
Unlike the engine, this type of thing really was not my cup of tea, and it took me loads of time, but ... in the end I was quite pleased with the result.
