My sentiment exactly. I am neither lazy or cheap. I have the available funds to do whatever I want with my 928.

If we, collectively, had a brain, we would encourage people to do conversions.
Like I keep telling people that are putting on cheap fubber (rubber that is going to fail) fuel lines...."There's too many of these cars, still, for them to become uber valuable. more need to burn to cut down on the numbers. Go for it!"
Same thing applies to conversions.
Used, they are worth 1/20 of what the person invested.
I actually put them in the same category as used condoms....not very many people want them.

Three Wheelin'
^^^ That picture you posted is freaky and disgusting...
You could most likely achieve long term reliability out of a GM motor if you based your build upon an Oldsmobile 350 diesel block, they were based on a gasser 350 yes, but heavily reinforced for diesel compression, force exerted on pistons and heat. I've seen them used in drag cars with huge success.

Since everyone is so in love with the Euro, and its engine, someone make me an offer on mine.
Many people on this thread are up in arms about a chevy in a euro car. If the Euro motor is so worth saving, and you guys rent averse to spending all that money bringing back to its full glory, then I say go for it. Somebody write me a check for the Euro, and I will find a US version to put a v8 in. This way nobody's feelings get hurt.
I am happy I found this forum, and I am super stoked that there are some very knowledgable people on here. I must say however, that there is a good percentage of individuals on here who are either just parroting out what someone else has said, or are quoting someone else info posted as their own.
I am thinking that a good plan would be this: if you havent done it, maybe you shouldnt talk about it as if you have. Just a thought.
Again, had I known the drama would be this deep, I would have just skipped posting this. I still think the car is badass.
I still think that spending 3 times the money to get the same amount of HP just to say that its a Porsche engine is a bit bizarre... but I still respect the projects of those who have done it.

If getting a 928 motor running when it seems you already have spark and air, is too hard, surely that should give you pause about whether you can deal with the patience required for an engine swap?
As a starting point - have you read the workshop manuals? You can find them here:

Research has shown me that putting a chevy in a 928 if you have the right parts is actually easier and quicker than putting that same exact 928 motor right back in. Again, if you cheap out and do not buy all the pre fabbed, pre-fitted parts for the SBC, then life may suck for you.
I never said it was too difficult. I am simply stating that if it is going to cost me a ton of cash to get it running, I will have to weigh whether or not it is worth it.
I am going to finish putting together my 80 US this weekend. The body parts will all be on, and the new master cylinder assembly will be in as well. That means it will be driveable. If all goes according to plan, I should be back on monday with reports on how it drove.... or what I did on the side of the road while I was waiting for my tow truck lol.
