I want to do the same thing Jerry. I actually bought another center to experiment with...although it is way down on my list right now....

I planned on lowering the ac head, and the central indicator, like what you have done, of course, mine would not look as good

Jeff and Ron. My basic conversion in black leather into a plain vinyl center console with your double DIN Nav unit and your HVAC and ! panel for either the auto or the manual shifter, including a matching leather boot, is $800 plus shipping. There will be some wiring issues when you get it back since the HVAC unit moves down to a place where the connector will not fit, so you have to wire each pin individually somehow. You will need to send me the complete center console and the air vent louver devise becaue it too has to be modified. My conversion also includes a little devise to reconnect the air outlet back to the air source so the air does not just blow around under the dash when the outlet is moved from the console to the upper insert resulting in the change of the outlet angle. Any console restoration is extra, but some of it comes with the conversion, such as re-establishing the upper two mounting points.

We will need to discuss some of this a little further, particularly the timing, and we can do that by phone and/or email.

Cool Jerry, I'll start saving up for this.

Tri-flow cams are the current cash hole this quarter.

I am not feeling for the 2 round vents. Personally I much prefer Jerry's.

I already have a Pioneer AVIC D3 GPS installed in mine so Jerry's version would be the icing on the cake for me. I love it.

Basically I got two other vents (one upper one lower) and then snipped rear plastic bar on the back side so they operate independently left from right. Replacing the center **** thingy so there is one for each side. The center vane is super glued in that position

Here is how we split the center vents on my car. Starts at post #12. And don't say anything about my key hole.

I wouldnt have thought of this without your post which you linked above, I just added so the knobby ones are for each side as well.

I contacted Dr. Konradsheim who is selling this car among other 928 and other Porsches (see my post #1).
And although I made him aware that I am not interested in buying this particular car and just curious about any background information about this very professionally done center console conversion, I was very impressed to receive an immediate instant reply with the following information - for which I have persmission to provide it here on Rennlist:

" .. this work was done at Becker, when the car was driven by the ceo of Becker, therefore the solution is pretty perfect "

Explains a lot to me, and nice to know info.

Cool.. thanks for posting!

Its also cool that the CEO of Becker was driving a 928 by choice in 2002, even though it was 7 years old (guess based on the age of that PCM version).

Jerry:

Looking at the INE-Z928HD with these case and face specs:
Dimensions

Din Size: 2
Chassis Size (W x H x D) mm: 178mm x 100mm x 165mm
Chassis Size (W x H x D) in: 7'' x 3-15/16'' x 6-1/2''
Nose Piece Size (W x H x D) mm: TBD
Nose Piece Size (W x H x D) in: TBD

Do those dimentions cause any headaches?
