Default Identify inside and outside temp sensors

Others have told me to look behind the headlight but somehow I am missing the outside temp sensor. And I don't know where to look for the inside.

Can someone show me a picture of both in their appropriate places or direct me to a site that would show them to me.

Thanks as always.

It's actually under the headlight in the fender well. If you remove the L front tire front splash guard you should find a corrugated hose. This is the vent intake for the alternator. The outside sensor should be afixed inside of this.

Edit: L not R front tire. My Lapse.

Inside sensor is inside the dash behind the little disc like unit to the right of the center console, or at least thats where i think it is.

Ooooo...did i just answer a question?First one ever!

Cheers,

The inside HVAC sensor is that small round disk shape in the upper part of the center console - it has 2 slots in it for air intake. The outside temp sensor is in the alternator cooling duct as MainePorsche said, but usually this is behind the Left headlight.
NOTE - the inside sensor is held into the center console from behind - do not pry on the rim of the disk - it will only break and look ugly!

I think its under the LEFT front headlight... it is in my RHD car anyway. Its spliced into the alternator cooling hose, so it had better be on the LHS!
See pic here:-
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...placement.html
A short metal tube is clamped by the two hose clips visible (1 new, 1 old), and the sensor is in this tube, with a 2 wire pigtail coming off, which joins 2 wires coming through the inner fender. This joint on mine got corroded and the climate control failed.
Normally the hose and sensor is screwed to the splash gaurd, so you have to release the guard's screws, turn it a bit, and undo the hose/sensor screws. The pic shows my mod to avoid this crappy mounting method - had no issues with it in several years now. If your hose is in poor condition (common) I think Roger T carries it.
The inside sensor is behind the small round black plastic grille (1- 1.25: dia) on the console top area - it has a tiny fan in it to draw air through to ensure it sees a reliable temperature. Not a common failure point AFAIK. If you take the console side off, you can see it fairly well with a mirror.

Depending on what year but if it's 89+ the outside temperature sensor is in the drivers side wing mirror (LHS)

That's only for the digidash display, not the aircon...

Would this sensor in the wing mirror on the LHS be what is making my outside temperature read 100F today when it is 22F? Just started today.

All good info. Post number 5 has a link with a good picture of the outside temp sensor location.
Remove driver front wheel and then remove fender liner by removing lag bolt type fasteners(10 mm socket I believe) Look up near front headlight pod to see the duct that goes to the alternator. the sensor is in the short elbow section. Refer to Merlins post #6 for the details

I believe so, if it ain't connected it would show -40C, however if it is jumpered or probably broken it'll show high temperatures.

High resistance= low temperature
Low resistance = high temperature

You can get a temperature dependable resistor for about $5 that matches the resistance reading of the old one. I had a link but sadly can't find it. Sorry bud.

The expected resistance readings can be found in this baby: 89+ cluster diagnosis

-40 degrees means the temp sensor in the door mirror is not connected or broken wire somewhere to the digi dash (or a dirty connector to the digidash but less likely). First and easiest thing to check is to remove the mirror from the mirror housing and check if the sensor is connected properly. The sensor when properly seated sticks out a bit from a hole in the underside of the mirror housing.

I would also first have a look in the mirror housing as suggested by aryan.
