Alex, Credit goes to Dinsdale, it's his smarts & hard work that made this happen. Next up is the LS3 6spd (manual) "Just Peachy" swap. If there is interest, a 6spd (auto) swap could follow. js has it right, Z06's only came in 6 spd manual. Plenty of used C5 & C6 6 spd auto's out there. T

Would love low RPMs on the highway. ODs are sweet.

you have an OD now, in the S4 2.2 gear box. all other gears are pretty close as far as the RPM spread between them. in fact, when racing the C5 Z06s at the track, its funny that are shift points are almost identical. I forgot where that extra gear is, but for the most part, the S4 and Z06 are very close gear box wise for most speed ranges you run at.
2200 rpm on the freeway going 70mph, is pretty nice on the S4. it really is an overdrive gear. all the other gears mean buisness!

I think the durability of the C5 trans is better plus, It is very cool to have a 6 speed too.
Nice work. amazing work !!

On what year car was the first swap done?
I'm nearly positive that the S4 tunnel is larger than the mid-year S tunnel.
Learned this putting an 89 S4 autotrans & TC into an 84 tunnel.

Beg to differ, my final ratio is 2.75, 5th gear is 1:1, and I turn ~ 3000rpm @ 80mph.

Interesting here in australia our local supercars with the car of the future will be with a transaxle. next year .
Might be with the existing gearbox or something different , might give all some ideas also . As they are free to run whatever 5 litre engine , would be interesting with a panamera engine up front . as mercedes and Nissan are on board , have not nominated whether gearboxes are free .

the ONLY downsides I see to this conversion are just two things
1: COST (just cause I am poor)
2: weight...I do think the C5 transaxle is at least 80lbs heavier (G28-03 is only 122lbs dry)
The upsides are a true overdrive and the ability to reliably handle HUGE power....get a transizzla from RS gear and it will hold 1000ftlbs.....
