Don't worry, there are several thousands more out there to choose from! *facetious*

If the several thousand better 928's to restore didn't exist, then I might be in favor of restoring this one, but they do exist, so I miss what the appeal is with this specific car.

Ok, I'm skewered, but 23k miles is a small club, maybe 200 to 500 928's with that few miles. That makes it a special car.

Maybe, but this could be a problem.

Any idea what "wrecked" pertains to?

Sorry guys, I may get flamed for this, but I would have done exactly as he did, and in fact, I have done it . That car had been listed for over 4 months and nobody stepped up and purchased it. In fact, I am sure everyone here would post that it was $10k away from a $5k car, plus needing a paint job on top of that. Now that someone buys it to help make his other car better, he has everyone coming out of the woodwork telling him to restore it and it is worth saving...blah....blah...blah... It is very easy to spend someone else's dollars and tell them to do what to do with "their" time and money. Give it a rest. They can't all be saved because there aren't enough enthusiasts with the $ to do it. In the meantime, one nice early car becomes much better for an affordable price and maybe others can be helped with the parts.

Doug, I think only one person stepped up to suggest he restore it (danglerb). Otherwise, I think all is good in the world of Porsche.

No flame, just a different opinion. The end result won't be a $5k car, depending on title and fine points maybe a $15k car. Nobody stepped up because the seller had it unrealistically priced.

OTOH pulling the interior is maybe a good next step for someone planning to restore it, as long as the parting out is limited to interior and other bits that might be replaced in restoration anyway.

Travis,
I saw this car on CL about a month ago for $8,000 and was thinking WTF? Good for you for checking it out and finding a sweet interior that will look perfect in your car. Nice! Hope you have it in for SITP later this year . Love to see it.

As a 6-year OB owner, I feel like a heretic taking this car apart, but I can't pass it up. My current dilemma is whether to sell it once I frankenstein it, or to take every part off of it that I think I'll ever need and put it in storage --then junk the frame for $200 in steel. I think the latter will be my choice. One day I'll need a new tranny, new engine, new diff, whatever. Sad to see a '78 go to scrap, but glad to see my '79 alive. Sorry.

You also have the questions of why someone would part such a car....
I guess it simply happens over and over and honestly, unless it is one of the few really early cars like yours, it's just another 928 slowly deteriorating in a barn ,field etc until a point where the are very few good parts even left.
Also Jim, I know you like early Euros. There is a '78 #9288102017, running good looking car, dark red with Pascha 5-spd asking $5000 obo. Unfortunately it has flat dish wheels and someone added front and rear spoilers to it. Located in NJ on CL.

Will post a thread with pics of the car shortly.

Hey Paul,

Yeah, Bob Budd just replied to an email I sent him yesterday. He's willing to take the black carpet I bought last year back (still in the box) and send me a cork carpet in exchange (for shipping). I'm hoping to get it by SITP. Fingers crossed.

When you said "NJ", I immediately thought... Spoiler Alert!

I've now got some phone dials for sale if you need them (one's been painted black for some reason).
