What worked for me to clean a ton of carbon off the internals of the 996 engine was, spray can of Permatex Gasket Remover. It's remarkable how well it works on carbon and any parts store has it.

I was never good at remembering what all the different 928 engine number designations meant. I can see the heads don't have the nuts on them but other thatn that, what am I looking at here?

Anyone have any dead bodies...
Sure. How many do you need?

The old engine going in that hole?

Nothin too special. Just a US 4.7 from an auto.

Not much to report as I've been hella-busy with work this week trying to make a deadline to submit a grant. Worked 19 hours yesterday and am already back in at the office. DOn't knwo how late today will go, but my guess is around midnight.

The new motor is sitting in the garage still. But I did manage to take the pistons into the workshop to get cleaned up. 5/8 are good to go. 3 have some really stubborn carbon on the pistons. I'm trying to re-soak one of them today to see if it will help.

Back to work... seriously.

Not much to update. The garage had been out of commission, but it is now back is working order. The boy and I will now start taking things apart on the car in prep for extraction. Now the fun really begins.

I said the engine would be out by Xmas... It could happen, but won't. Maybe New Years.

It's only 12:22 EST, you could make it! Better idea, leave it till next year and enjoy the time with your family. It'll give me some good RL reading to look forward to next year

Started digging into it. Where do I start. Well it has a sewer pipe for an exhaust. Not sure if Ill keep it or not. It's got MSDS headers. And it's got a bunch of this oil control crap that has failed and spewed oil everywhere. So right now I'm just cleaning things up a bit in order to start taking things apart.

Oh yeah... The oil pan has been welded. Not sure why? Oh well. And the SCer bracket is missing a pulley. Here are a bunch of pics.

A pressure washer and a garbage can. That should be your shopping list.

Nice toolbox if I have identified it correctly. Is that the really deep Snap-on box? Similar to mine, though mine is 20 years old. Inspiring progress. Great work & happy holidays.

Edit: I am blind. Now that I can see the whole box that is obviously not a KRL box, or even a Snap-on. Still a very nice setup you have for a workspace.

Slick! Looks like the bottom of my GTS the day after I bought it.
