Make sure you have enough clearance with that engine hoist...the front bumper...the top of your garage door entrance to lift the motor out UP and out.

You will most likely have it up of the ground to get things disconnected underneath (TT. etc etc). Your drive way appraoch seems pretty flat so you can probably push the car out for that last step to pull the engine. Mine has a good slope so i didnt have that option. I barely had enough clearance for everything all said and done.

Jealous of your project!

Hi Tony!

Ran into that issue with the GT when we pulled than motor 5-years ago, but I think you're right. We will probably poke the nose of the euro out of the garage to make extraction easier. If only my garage were 6' deeper! Next house...

Christmas came a bit early!

Thanks again to Mark Anderson and the crew at 928 Int'l for working with me to put this together. i will let the picture do most of the talking.

Yay! The block already has a provision for the CPS! Plug and play! Woo Hoo!

Ugh! It's way dirty! and look at how worn that gear is! Yikes!

My boy, helping me with the hoist.

So today, I took it outside and power-washed it. OMG! what a mess! But it's way cleaner now. I have a friend who owns an AMMCO Transmission shop. I may take it over to him and have it hot-tanked.

There's some pitting in the valley. I wonder what had been left int here to eat away at the aluminum?

A quick update.

Yesterday, the boy and I got the heads and oil pan off. All looks good. Today, I hope we will get the pistons out and start really cleaning things.

Yesterday, my son and I removed all the pistons. All the rod bearings look great and clean. Will probably re-use them... or not. The pistons are soaking in some Berryman's to get the oil varnish and carbon off of them. The next step will be to get the block washed down to get rid of all that old oil varnish. Then we will check ring gaps and other tolerances.

Garage cement work should be completed today and then we will be able to begin prep work to pull the engine in a week or so! Man this is fun stuff!

You mentioned about the block being tanked to clean it...isnt that solution pretty caustic?...issues with Alusil?

Looks like a great project for your son as well. I tossed my boy a box with a completely dissasmbled (ruined) SuperTiger .90 model airplane engine the other day . I told him" fix this" and walked away. He said "whats wrong with it"......to which i replied.."its in pieces...DUH!!" Starting small ... but he got it all together

Tony,
Hot tanking is normally what's used.

Its been a while but when i had some other stuff cleaned they wanted to know what metal it was..etc? I was always under the impression it was litterally just hot/boiling water with a type of "soap" in it. Apparantly its not just "soap"?

Well, I don't know if it's exactly a "hot-tank", but my neighbor has a giant parts washer they use to wash transmission cases in. I think the use a mild detergent and lots of hot water. They come out looking pretty darn clean. That's all I'm looking for. I just want to get rid of the oil varnish that's on there and clean up the outside a bit. Nothing perfect... just clean.

Unfortunately, work has me SUPER busy this week. Have grant submission deadline of Dec 1. After that, I can breathe.
