Default Rear suspension - what to replace?

Hi Guys,

I will be tearing down the rear suspension on my '89 928S4 to install new Boges, and new brakes (rotors, pads, & pad sensors).

I am NOT looking for replating and powdercoating options. I just want to get it back to working the way it should.

From PET I know of:

928 331 588 10 (x2)
928 331 588 13 (x2) this is NLA, superceded by 928 331 588 15 (x2)

Other than anything that is broken or worn, what else should I be looking at replacing while I am in there?

Last I heard item 928.331.588.15 is not yet available.

I recently did a rear suspension refresh and in addition to the Lower Control Arm Inner Bushing I replaced 928.331.089.02 (x4) - Upper Control Arm Link Bearing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike - that does help.

As for 928.331.588.15, I rang the local dealer, and was told "Available ex-Germany - three days".

Wow. There are folks here in the States that have been waiting for those to stock.

Calling all 928 parts vendors...

I just checked.

The vendor named after a large bird with a large beak (you know who I mean) has the .15 part listed - ~ $100.

Nothing. Make sure the sliding surfaces and the long rod are cleaned and lubricated. Some use antiseize. I prefer synthetic brake grease.

Porsche should have installed a rubber cap or something on the hole at the bottom, so that water and crud does not get in there and sieze the pin.

Piling on from Mark's suggestion ... good to replace the bushings in the upper arms, not expensive and you'll get some camber back. In fact, if you also do the lower arm inner bushings you should be able to get rear camber into spec, since looseness in these bushings is what makes it go negative (that along with alignment techs who don't tighten the bolts to 140 ft lbs ;-)

Has anybody replaced 928 331 111 01 & 928 331 112 01 - L & R Link Bearing?

Interestingly, I now realise that PET says that I need 4 of 928 331 588 13 (now .15), but only 2 of 928 331 588 10.

You guys are slipping - nobody corrected me from Post 1.

Ok guys, it's getting close to Christmas, and I have a list.

928.331.588.15 x 4 - lower hub to A-arm bush
928.331.588.10 x 2 - A-arm to body rear bush
928.331.089.02 x 4 - upper hub to upper control arm bearing & upper control arm to body bearing

That leaves the A-arm to body front mounting point as the only contact point not re-furbished.

PET has 928.331.111.00 & 928.331.112.00 as the left and right "link bearing", but that appears to be the actual body mounting.

To each of these is bolted 928.331.085.00 "rocker bar", which appears to have a bushing in it.

Does it have a bush, and should I replace these as a WYAIT?

Its one piece. Replace if you have too much money to burn. Its probably last one to go bad at rear end.

Thanks Erkka - having too much money is a problem that I would like to have.
