Be careful, you'll be doing good to get back half of every dollar you spend.
Point one It's being done in a shop by pros with all the right tools so little to be gained. With the end play out of spec I'm going to do the crank and rod bearings anyway. No brainer for me.
Point two Gulf Performance has the client base in 928s to make it a break even plus proposition at least which is OK by me. Anyway for now that's off the table.

If you mean crankshaft end-play of 0.9 mm, then that's trouble-- max spec is 0.4 mm. But I would expect shiny bits in the filter, which you are not seeing.

If you meant 9 thousands (0.009") then that is within spec.

You're talking lots of discretionary dollars here, you want to be sure.

You are correct but every cent spent on this is discretionary, otherwise I would have bought a KIA.

Yeah, that's way out of spec (>0.4mm). You MAY have escaped damage. I saw one 928 with obvious, symptomatic thrust bearing failure and it measured 1.65mm. Fortunately my engine at 245K miles is still 0.2mm.

Yes, you need to pull the motor and make sure the thrust bearing has not spun and cracked the block.

Motor's coming out. Rods, mains, seals (main and cams), tb (known good wp), pan gasket (silicone), fuel lines. What else? Let the expert opinions fly.

I have owned my car for six years now. I wish I would have started a master thread like this back then detailing EVERY repair I have done to my car. It would be hundreds of pages now LOL. There is just so much little stuff that gets forgotten.

It would be great to be able to point to a master thread when selling the car as proof of "hey look at all the blood, sweat, and tears I have in this thing". I have done all of the work either by myself or with friends. And I just haven't done a good job of saving all the reciepts (on purpse haha).

Default Mats Came in Today

Funny light makes the trunk mat lettering look lighter. It's not.

Rings, ultrasonic cleanout of the lifters, R&R the head oil galley plugs and clean the galleys, R&R the rear cam plug seals with pins (if not already done), consider R&R'ing the timing chain pads. Cam/oil pump/crank gears good?

Deburr the lower gallery of the block, install a windage tray, setup for additional crank case vent and air/oil separator, Shave and flow the intake runners, match weigh the recip masses,,,, I could go on, and on, and on. If only someone had advised checking the TBF results before paying. If only....

PO did the top end pretty well. I'll put off going through it till I get this done. $$ I can do the top myself. We'll be looking closely at the oil pump, but unless it's ingested a bunch of metal it should be OK. I wasn't aware of the cam plug issue. I'll research it. Thanks

Jim you should be ok.
When I did mine it must have moved a 100 thou which is major.
I pulled the cross member against most everyone’s advice and they were right.
The bottom of the engine comes off like a 2 stroke engine which leaves the crank hanging from the rods.
More importantly, the bearings were showing some brass on the thrust bearing but nothing was damaged.

I have heard that if it touches the block then its to late.
I got my bearings from roger. they came in Porsche boxes and were very affordable.

I just factored it in and figured if it was good it would be gravy. So, no gravy. I'm not disappointed at all.
That's all good stuff, but it wasn't factored in, so not this round.
