Jim bought his GTS from me years ago which was a salvage title car which gives him a unique perspective. I wish I still had that car but I'm glad Jim enjoys it.

To me the salvage title is meaningless. I don't have any plans to sell the car and in fact I've probably spent an equal amount as the original purchase price in mods and maintenance. It's my daily driver, but more importantly it's my hobby and my passion. Any car that is an obsession is a hole you keep throwing money into, so what, I'm enjoying myself!

TexasDude74 I'll open the bidding with a $9k offer.
Read the original post, if your serious about bidding contact Art at the # shown. My only envolvment in this is posting the info for him. He leaves the country in Oct. so he may accept your bid!

Ok.. I have to post here..... I've had no less than 5 phone calls on this car and 11 diferent PM's...... This car has been in no less than 3 incidents that should have totaled it. One incident resulted in the oil pan getting removed from the engine, and I personally removed the oil pickup tube from the engine and it was stuffed full of and 100% blocked from asphalt and road debris. This incident also included the entire underside of the car being torn up, with the exhaust dented and torn in several places. The GT transaxle has also been cracked and welded up agaist professional recommendations to remove it from the car and have it replaced.

So, does that mean this is your car or that you just happen to know a lot about it. Either way, how does what you have to offer about it change anything about its value and/or it condition now. In fact now it sounds to me like it is not such a great car PLUS being on a Salvage Title.

Half time scores are in for the great "salvage title" Write-Off.

OP - 4
Sean - 3
People of undisclosed identity - 2
Jerry Feather - 9

The only thing that would complete the story now is a photo finish!

Come on guys, You all know that the value of a car is what someone is willing to pay for it. For one thing, in NC, you can't finance a car with a salvage title so one would have to have 17k cash lying around. On the other hand, If I had it, I would be all over this car. It is my favorite year and color. If it had the lipstick red interior, I would be in trouble. I disagree that all people who who repair damaged vehicles are trying to do it as fast and cheaply as possible. Some folk actually put a ton of blood, sweat and yes tears into the repairs, as I expect that most of you in this discussion would.

Well, I see the self professed "Experts" are now voicing an opinion on this car. I want to repeat, I have nothing to gain personally if this car sells or not. But this same expert has zero knowledge of this car or the level of maintenance beyond what occured to it over ten (10) years ago. A lot gets done to a car over ten years. I also stated that a PPI should be done (on any used car you have an interest in).

This is a 89GT, perhaps the most desired 928 short of a GTS, and to some better than even the GTS with it's oil consumption problems and weak rods etc. etc. The current owner has done a lot of maintenance on this car.
If your interested you owe it to yourself to at minimum go look at the car or get a PPI done, it is after all an 89GT.

From a former 89GT owner.

I'm going to go with a 'yikes' here. But - just to be fair, maybe the engine was torn down, and all wear parts inspected or replaced, and maybe the trans has been removed and replaced with an unwelded correct unit.

Anything can be repaired, heck a vintage Ferrari was restored from a few bits of tin, the data plate, engine case and some instruments. As long as all the damage was properly repaired, and fitted to the car, it should be fine.

I have always heard stories about this GT from the DFW crew of what happened to it and how it was repaired. Non of them were good stories... If you have noticed not many of the DFW crew are here praising how well the job was done or how good the car is. Don't you think they would be here defending the car and supporting it???

I have never seen the car or met the owner, maybe all the stories I've heard are just rumors, after all it looks pretty good in the pictures better than my own S4. I don't care how much it sells for or who buys it, but I hope that the seller is as HONEST as possible on how extended the damage was, how it was repaired and how it has been treated and taken care of after the repair, rather than leaving it to the buyer to maybe find out by themselves by performing a PPI...
