Have you ever got 3rd gear rubber, with 275 rear tires in an automatic?
......i just did in my effing incredible Murf SC'ed 87. After a week of tweeking this and that and finally trusting to tighten the SC belt LOTS.....this thing is a freight train.....it shifts RIGHT NOW......revs to 6200 instantly and runs out of road real quick.....its hot here in the Okanagan Valley now with temps near 100F and it runs dead cool just over the bottom white line. Leave it in drive and the car is a regular grocery getter.....you'd never know it was SC'ed but for the whistle....its a completly different car without losing any of the great personality of the 928......thanks Tim!

Hmm...since the shift firmness is determined by vacuum or boost in the absence of vacuum I wonder if adding boost actually increases shift firmness vs zero vacuum on a NA car at full throttle.....hmmm...I heard that the same "feed" for vac or boost can actually slightly increase fuel pressure with boost....it makes sense it would also increase shift firmness since its a similar actuator?

John,

Congrats man!
You should bring it down and we should run a quick check on it with the ST2 to ensure that everything is functioning 100% as it should be.

Have you ever got 3rd gear rubber, with 295 rear tires in a 5-speed?
Yes.

YES! At least mine did. Felt like a concussion grenade detonating in the back seat when shifting under boost. So, I installed a one way vacume check valve in a TEE so that the boost pressure is bled off from the modulator port when under boost.......

Colin.....i plan to be down sometime august to see clients and will set up a morning.....Killav....yah, it shifts, like you say, a grenade going off which raises the concern about blowing something up....could you elaborate on the bleed-off proceedure.....which modulator?....Murf's kit has a tee inline with the front driverside modulator/regulator which goes to the supercharger to regulate the wastegate.

I wish I had a picture for you but it's very simple. The line running along the torque tube feeds to the drivers side of the transmission, to the vacume modulator. Pull this rubber line (it looks braided) off and install a plastic TEE. The bottom side of the Tee and the leaving side of the Tee will need a short piece of vacume line each, and then connect one side of the TEE back to the transmission, and the other to the one way check valve. Just make sure to install the check valve so that vacume from the engine closes it so you won't have a vacume leak, and it will open up under pressure or lack of vacume. I bought my check valve at Pep boys, but any "Autozone" type place should have one in the "Help" section.

So, are you wondering what the stage-3 configuration would be like yet?

Installing a "T" and check valve as described will make the shift softer, because the transmission will be slipping a more during the shifts. More slipping means more wear and more heat. It's basically like if someone had a 5-speed and was letting the clutch slip during shifts while doing a full throttle run. The modification will also give you a boost leak. Not a modification I'd recommend or do if it were my car.
